What parts of your childhood would you like to relive now and then?

This afternoon, I got to relive some parts of my childhood. When I was nine through about 16, my friends and I would play touch football almost every day after school. My resistant afternoon 10-year-old kid client didn't want to play guitar, didn't want to play Legos, and didn't want to work on a project. But he did want to go outside and play football catch. We worked on lead passes, catching with one hand, and even punting. I don't think I'd tried to punt a football in over a decade. We wound up having fun, and I was able to get him to listen well and not be so bossy, which is one of his "treatment goals." For me it was fun because I got to do what (my body tells me) is still one of my favorite things: throwing and catching a football. Do you have childhood things you get to relive now and then?

Some youthful activity are best left alone in our memory vault. Too strenuous for our old body. Medical treatment are costly.

But some you can still do, like watching animals and their antics. I always enjoyed that.

@josie_ Playing with littlies allows me to be a kid. In the girls' "dramatic play," I'm usually "dad," but with the boys, we do stuff like build monster stacky towers, which I still enjoy.

Not really. Not anymore, other than maybe riding my bike, and I wasn't really riding for miles on end when I was a kid like I do now.

I like riding like I did when I was a kid. When I want to, for as long as I want to.

@TheHorse - I try to do that, but there are many days that I really just need to ride 35 or 40 miles.

Those times when I was really young. Five or six. TImes spent with my dad. Mostly my early memories are of times spent at my grandmother's. I spend my summers there.

I never liked to play with a ball, but I remember that I loved jumping rope. I think that this is something that I can still do... when nobody watches of course.

@TheHorse I have a jumping rope, I tried last Saturday and I can still jump easily. This is not too bad at my age.

I might trip and fall. But I've learned to dribble a basketball through my legs, like Stephen Curry.

It's good that you managed to come up with something that he enjoyed doing. It must be a bit tricky sometimes.

It is. I try to establish a common denominator or two with each kid before I work toward "treatment goals." Sports and music are my two main "comfort zones."

@TheHorse I guess you need to establish some point of contact or areas of 'compatability' before you can do much towards helping them.

As kids we would pluck fruits from a tree that we called 'ber' or borum. It had many thorns but we would take a stick and shake the branches and the fruits would fall down. This fruit was the favourite of kids. I got an opportunity to eat them as one tree has come up just near our compound wall. I have been watering and this year it has started yielding. I am enjoying those fruits now.

Yep. We knew our neighbors' back yards like the palms of our hands. That's where we'd run and hide after pelting passing cars with snowballs.

I always think about going back in time and re-doing alot of things like one being my middle school years. I would have stood up for myself when this one person was bullying me ?? I would have studied harder as well so school wouldn't be as hard right now ??

Probably bike riding for hours all over town. That and bumming around the malls, but most malls barely exist now.
