I Don't Like It When My Kids Play Games In Phone Instead of Preparing For School

I don't know if I'm strict parent but I just don't like it that my children first hold the mobile gadgets and phones to play games than taking a bath or preparing their bags for school. I got angry... but the next morning, they do it again. Sometimes, what they do is to turn on the television and watch cartoons. Stress. Sometimes parents can't hold themselves and got angry.

If they can't control their impulses, you need to make sure the phone isn't available. Same with the TV... in our case, it's easy because we can just turn off the WiFi so they can't stream anything from Amazon or Netflix. It doesn't make sense to get mad at kids for being kids. Our job as parents is to teach them how to be responsible adults, and sometimes that means taking away the distractions until they can handle the responsibility of getting themselves ready in the morning.

Sometimes, we cannot avoid using internet in the morning... for example to update our facebook or checking some news. Then most of the kids have the offline kids. But you are right, its our job to teach them though sometimes I cannot avoid to get angry at them.

My nephew have the same problem. He even use his mobile inside the bathroom whenever he takes bath. I really don't mind but my sister (his mom) does. So whenever he's here he will play his games all the time but that is after doing all the chores that I told him to do. At home with his mom to control the playing the mobile will be confiscated starting Sunday evening until Friday in the afternoon. No mobile on a school night.

Yeah, sometimes I do this, confiscation of mobile phone, but sometimes they are just to lovely to ignore and before you know it, they are again playing in the phone

@diosabella wow, sounds a good strategy. I guess its how you handle things of the kids.

@ilocosboy You have to be tough sometimes and put some rules. My sister gets jealous sometimes. My nephew said she complained why he always listen to me but he doesn't listen to her. The thing with kids they remember the deals you make with them and you have to hold your end of the bargain or they will do what you don't want them to do. And always let them think that they get more than what they bargained for even they don't.They will be more responsible.

My kids can watch TV but we have a schedule. They can only play with gadgets on weekends. I can sense your frustration, though. Try having a schedule and be consistent with it. Good luck.

You did the right thing. If I'll have kids, I'll even throw those gadgets or disconnect our cable so they'll spend their time studying and not doing unproductive things.

Many or maybe almost all parents are experiencing that. It is normal to get angry if our children prefer to play on their gadgets than study their lessons.

Yeah, so what else can we do but to teach them to become responsible.

You need to have some ground rules for your kids. This is not a good habit. My parents were really strict about this habit..

Children today certainly have more things that distract them.
