Lifetime Channel movies generally follow a woman in peril formula. Occasionally a better than average entry appears such as “Evil Nanny.” Beyond the expected histrionic melodrama, there is an interesting thought provoking plot device quite chilling if it were to happen to you.
Alexa is quickly established a psycho sociopath torching her orphanage resulting in a number of deaths. Fay and Tim are moving into her grandmother’s vintage home that she inherited and both are starting new jobs. They need a nanny to care for young son Alan and bay and Alexa now calling herself Jen responds to the ad.
Here is the important thing to remember. They cannot afford to pay salary and offer room and board in exchange. There is nothing in writing. Jen is a horrible nanny and fired. She will not leave the premises. This stalemate leads to a fascinating look into legality.
Laws favor tenants and Jen simply cannot be kicked out. The eviction process is long and drawn out with Jen throwing legal roadblocks. Her game is to extort $20,000 to go away which they cannot afford. Jen makes life miserable with noisy parties and drug dealing thug boyfriend. Every attempt to oust her is stymied either legally or clever tactics by Jen.
Being Lifetime, the outcome is inevitable but ultimately disappointing as Fay feels compassion for a vicious multi murderer. You can feel the nightmare of the situation and ponder what you would do. Laws enacted to protect tenants from landlords have now gone too far in the opposite direction. In Los Angeles, it can take six months to evict a deadbeat tenant. France observes squatters rights. The moral of “Evil Nanny” is beware whom you let that spare room to.

Here, they refer to it as the "toothbrush law." If you have been somewhere three days, they can't throw you out, even if you are just a guest. Here in Manitou, a lot of floppers take full advantage of that.

That's so wrong. Rights for the "invader" but none for the resident paying the bills.

@JohnRoberts - A couple summers ago, we let a guy who was across the street at the laundry take a shower after he worked on my bike (he was working on his own, almost as nice as mine, so we figured he would be ok.) Still, we immediately scoured the bathroom to see if he'd left anything so that he could say he'd been staying here. All he left was a big bud for us.

@teamfreak Didn't know that. For a long time, before we were married, I lived in a different city and had a condo in a different city. I ended up with two set of a lot of things. Good thing things worked out.

Never again will we rent out a room to someone without a legal binding contract. People anymore can be so weird.

Lifetime movies are usually pretty scary and good like the one called "Coach Killer" which a male swimming coach had a love relationship with one of his female swimming students.

I saw it and agree its hard to evict somebody. Occasionally, I watch the court shows and when its California I know its going to be a huge expense for the property owner. The ending isn't a surprise.

There is A Bette Davis film called The Nanny in which she plays an evil nanny given to drowning children - very scary movie - this sounds similar

Those kind of movies do fascinate me. I will look this one up. They also scare me but that is half the fun. I loved that movie "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle".

Lol, I know I am a giant disappointment to people in general. (My name's Faye - I'm just having a bit of fun...) Actually that movie sounds pretty good. I wouldn't have thought it would be that hard to get rid of a tenant, good to know
