Last night as I was sitting here writing and watching TV and the wind was blowing so hard that I thought it was going to blow the windows in and possible make the TV fall off the stand! The weather said that the wind's were between 50 to 60 miles per hour! This morning the schools in this county were opening two hours late, but the wind is supposed to be getting stronger so why didn't they just close school?

@scarlet_woman On the news I just saw the weather report which said that we got those winds from a bad storm that was in Maine. But now weirdly and not common that type of storm has gone out to sea.

It won't be much fun trying to get children to and from school with such winds blowing.

That is right! My 78 year old mom walks her to the bus and picks her up too.

I have been responding to several posts dealing with weather but they need to be responded to as they are not the usual how was your day kind of posts. Hope you will weather the weather calmly whether you like it or not.

If the weather wasn't safe then they shouldn't have had to go to school. Why risk something happening?

School is supposed to be open a certain number of days per term. If they close down for wind or other acts of nature they have to either make up the lost time at the end of the year or they will lose funds. I would think that the safety of the children is more important than the money. But what do I know? We had the high winds here in California last month. Because of the storms we had 6 300 year old oak trees fall over. Their root system was rotted from the drought. What was incredible is that none of the trees hit any of the houses that they were beside! One did come close, it hit the edge of the awning that was over the house and it scratched the side of the house and the air conditioner. The damage would add up to no more than $400! If it had fallen just 3 inches to the left it would have destroyed the house and everything in it, with damages amounting to $50,000! One of the oak trees was in my back yard. It fell away from the house and the damages amounted to about $200. (It fell across a 12 foot section of chain link fence). If it had fallen the other way the damages would have been to the amount of $100,000 plus! Nothing is more upsetting than the high winds. Wind can do so much damage to an area, with downing trees, spreading fires and so much more. I'm glad nothing was damaged in your home and hope the winds will die down and make life safer for you and the children. Hugs Toni

Here in Virginia they a lot on the calendar a certain amount of "snow days" as they call them. But they are for any kind of weather or reason that they have to close other than other major holidays or teacher workday's. And this county has not used one day so far this year.
