Last fall, I posted here about a segment from NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt on how yoga can help you lower your back pain. Well, last night, they did another one on it, mentioning it's preferred to having surgery or taking medicine for it. Here's the link for it: I'm so glad I'm doing yoga at home and going back to the gym for yoga next week!
Around 80 percent of adults will experience lower back pain — the most common cause of job-related injury. New recommendations say patients should first attempt to treat pain with non-drug therapies.

True. We do a lot of stretching in yoga. Just another study to back up that claim.

Yoga would probably help my back pain too although mine rarely troubles me really. Only if I do something a bit too strenuous.

Well you can do it to stay in shape and prevent it from recurring. Mine happens when I do the litter.

@TheInvisibleMan Maybe it's not a good fit for you. You just have to get used to doing the poses in a sequence and practice a lot. Have you tried Pilates or meditation? I don't see why it's boring.

Well, that is great if people can actually do this type of stuff. I know in the shape I am in and having Fibromyalga it is not something I could do.

I know some yogis in my class who have Fibromyalgia do take yoga. Maybe you can let your instructor know about it, if you do choose to go.

I love yoga, I wish I would do it more often. I tried to get my mom to do yoga once but it was so hard for her to follow the moves.

@KristenH She has very tight joints and she couldn't do the full moves. I will try with her again, she wouldn't have the patience to do it herself. I used to go to a yoga studio but they are quite expensive and had to stop. Now I just follow the class in my gym which is once a week, they do hatha yoga.

Oh wow. Go for it if you can. As for your mom, maybe she can study it online or video or reading how to do the move in slow motion.

@besweet Ohh. Good idea. Mine's free. Just have to pay for membership. I just have Beginners Yoga twice a week. I'm not sure I'm ready to advance to the next level yet.

Definitely. Another way to prevent back pain is to strengthen your stomach muscles.
