Always be careful to have the foreign words as the tattoo / myLot

Some people like to have foreign words as the tattoo. Unfortunately sometimes the tattooists even have no idea about the words meaning. So there will be many horrible mistakes. As it is too difficult to get rid of the tattoo, so it is better to search it before making the tattoo. An example as you can see from the image. The Chinese words are beautiful, but actually it means chicken soup noodles

I ever saw a post about it via the net and I felt sorry for those foreigners who made the wrong words as their tattoos.

If they haven't got enough brains to check out such stuff first, they deserve what they get. Really, how silly is it not to check out what you're having tattooed on your body as a permanent thing?

Maybe they trust the tattoo artist for the translation too! They should do reasearch, I agree! I think I have also read such questions in yahoo answers, from people trying to find the correct words for a tattoo in foreign languages.

I also think that they should check it before they made the tattoo. But it is true that they trusted the tattooists. The words are beautiful but unfortunately the tattooist doesn't know what it means

@besweet I'm afraid I don't like tattoos at all so I don't feel very sympathetic towards these people. I'm getting old and grumpy I think.

I think this woman who has this tattoo feels very sad already. And she hasn't known it until one Chinese asked her:"Why did you make chicken soup noodles as your tattoo?"

I used to be a member of a translation website and I had some projects for tattoo translation in my language. I agree, it is best to do a good research on it, when you are planning something as permanent as a tattoo.

People should just use animals or zodiac signs instead. You never know if they would put the word Poop or people's organ as tattoo.

That is really pretty funny...Say for instance you might want I love mom on your tattoo and it could end up as I love mud...or something equally as ridiculous!

I remember a story I read of a woman foreigner who bought a cloth with Chinese characters to make into a dress. Unfortunately the characters when translated read "Come inside, very cheap".

you'd like the site "hanzi smatter"..they've got a whole bunch of things like this. one woman had a tattoo that appearently said "explosive diarrhea" on her..

It is beyond me why some would make the tattoo.However what you talked about reminds me of some people here who wear T-shirts printed with curses in English and go around.
