Who does something like this?

My neighbor's daughter is getting married in July. They got a call this morning that the venue they were to get married at burned to the ground in the early hours of this morning. It was deliberately set. Who would do that? This is a barn that was built in 1946 and kept in the family for all those years. It was used for weddings and special events. The above pictures shows what it looked like before and the terrible fire that destroyed it. They along with so many other couples are left trying to find a venue for their weddings that are to take place this year. It is heartbreaking to think that somebody would do that.

Wow that is really terrible Laurel. It is often used for weddings? I thought if it were just the one that it may be someone that did not want them to be married. Really horrible though and so treasured a barn from 1946.

It is used for many wedding. It is completely booked for this year and next. The weddings are from May to the end of October. The barn was filled with many antiques too.

@Happy2BeMe How very sad for the owners of this barn and the community. I guess now a new wedding venue must be in order, but never can replace what has been lost.

@TiarasOceanView No never because it was old and had character and irreplaceable but they have a beautiful view of the bay so I am sure they will rebuild another venue in time.

Maybe it was an accident. I can't think that someone would burn the barn on purpose. I hope they will find what happened soon. Is the couple looking for another venue now? I hope they will find something for the same dates.

@Happy2BeMe So someone didn't want to get married then and burned the venue? Or it could be business related, it would be interesting to know the reason behind this sad event. Good luck to the couple.

It was started at 3:30am and there is proof that is was intentionally set. Yes I hope they find a venue soon.

How sad is this act, not to mention illegal. I hope that they catch the person responsible for it. Our son's fiancé actually looked at renting a barn for a wedding-she likes rustic, but they only do weddings between June and September, when it is hot and humid, and there was no a/c, so I politely advised her to go with a place a little nicer and has a/c for all of her guests' consideration.

@Happy2BeMe Antiques and memories for a lot of families I'm sure. We had a place like that in our area that people rented for stag & doe parties, and it burned down, and when I drive past it I always get an eerie feeling.

Yes that would be more comfortable. I hope they do catch whoever did it. The barn was filled with antiques and vintage farm equipment. Things that can never be replaced.

Some people just light fires for no reason. Last year a guy in my hometown started a fire and it burned down half of the uptown area. He reason why just because he felt like it.

That's so sad and terrible! Well I hope they catch whoever set the barn on fire . . . people do crazy things in anger, jealousy, or even for no reason at all.

A competitor? Or maybe negligence to the care takers? That was so sad. I think they are all cramming to get a new venue? But what about their down-payment? Oh my! Reading this one makes me want to watch serendipity movie.... I just remember throaty when the wedding was cancel... Sad part for the second lead character.... Happy for those leading characters. Anyway that second lead can still find her true love. And I guess through this bad situation those soon to be couples will be tested on how they can work out and don't panic to get a new venue specially those who are booked for this week. God bless.

@Happy2BeMe that was great to hear at least they still have more than two months. That was so nice to hear that they are good people. But I hope they won't get any problem financially with this urgent cashing out. And I hope they can quickly set their business back to normal.... If it is oldest running it is almost a tradition to every wedding that should be kept and keep ongoing to generations.

They know that somebody set it. They will find those responsible I am sure. The weddings are booked from May to the end of October so there would be no weddings until may but people books years ahead to get a venue. This place was booked for 2017-2018. I am sure they will get back all their down payments. The people who run this place are good people. They are well liked and respected in their community.

I don't understand why either, but it sounds like either a prank gone awry or someone was mad at the people that live there and rent out their grounds. Otherwise it's even more non-nonsensical than that. At least they still have five months to find a new location rather than a few weeks if it happened closer to their events.

That is so sad. My nephew was to get married in a National Trust manor house in Surrey, England last September but that burnt to the ground too along with hundreds of artefacts and antiques. At least it wasn't deliberately lit.
