I am a singleton and don't have many friends who like to do anything other than go for a coffee. I really want to do some exciting things this year after going through some bereavements and realizing that life is too short to not enjoy it to the full. Part of me is a bit worried that if I go out and do things on my own that people will think I'm odd, though. Are there any My Lotters who do things alone or do you have any advice about what sort of things I can do?

I have spent a lot of time going for very long walks (many miles each time) in the countryside around my home. It's a great way to be alone with my thoughts but in a totally different environment. There is always something new to see and appreciate.

@redurnet It's sometimes remarkable what's on our doorsteps.

I sometimes eat alone at coffee shops, I think it's a normal thing.
You could always get yourself involved in some activities so you can meet people and make more friends.
Like me, I go for zumba class and Bible class, made some great friends.
And we also have this hangout place where we would meet up on Friday night and anyone (be it family or friends) is free to come and talk and laugh.

Taking the time to go and do things either in a group or alone is a great thing to do as it gives you time to gain a new perspective, and often gives you ideas on the next new thing to write about. Just go somewhere where you can get out and spend some time walking and exploring and people watch. You might even make a New friend in the process.

I would enjoy having some friends that just want to meet for coffee!
I assume you have Facebook as most people do. Perhaps if there's an event that interests you, plan to go alone, but post on Facebook that you're interested in going and see if any of your friends might be interested as well.. you never know!

I always do things alone. You can always have someone to do things with you. And besides how can you enjoy things to the fullest if you don't know how to enjoy it yourself. Having fun is not about thinking of other people might look at you.... But as long you don't hurt anyone and you are not putting God's name to shame you can go to where you can have fun with your heart content lol!

I actually enjoy going to parks and photographing things like flowers and wildlife. There are hiking trails often you can walk in the parks. But since I started taking pictures.. I really enjoy it.. I use the pictures I take to create things online and make myself some extra cash that I use to spoil myself or the pets with. :)

I used to go out and do things alone. I have never been fond of doing things by myself, but I also didn't like sitting home bored and missing out on things. After the first few times of going by myself, I stopped being so nervous and found that I enjoyed myself. I went to outdoor concerts, public events and to shoot pool. I also found that no matter where I went, someone was always willing to talk with me, so I wasn't really alone the whole time.

I think you should embrace your time alone. I was always scared to be alone when I was younger. Now? I regret it. I wish I had been more adventuresome. Go for it! Do the things you wish to do while you can do them.

I'm comfortable in a crowd or being by myself. It would depend on my mood and I am not overly concern with what people might think of me. As Popeye said "I am what I am and that's all that I am" AND they can go take a flying leap out of the window for all I care.
