I do not know what the three colors means. I was born in Italy and I know that the meaning of the colors of our flag. The green represents the country's plains and the hills; white, the snow-capped Alps; and red, blood spilled in the Wars of Italian Independence.

That is not the official symbolism of the flag. If it were to symbolise a unity of religions, it should include colours for Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and other religions as well. And what about those people with no religion? The flag represents the State and the State is specifically not associated with any religion, so attributing any religious connotation on a State symbol is wrong and unconstitutional. I think that you should not try to read into national symbols, such as flags, things which were not intended to be there.
The flag of India -- called the Tiranga, meaning tricolor -- has three horizontal bars of saffron, white and green, and is embossed in the middle with a blue wheel. It was adopted on July 24, 1947, ...

@Okay123 Why should I not take every discussion seriously according to its merits? I understand that Indians respect and revere their flag, meaning that they take it seriously, much more than us British respect ours. In fact, recently a seller in Canada was forced to remove doormats in the design of the Indian flag from his online store because wiping one's feet on the flag was seen as desecration by many people. Most British people would not give a second thought to a doormat with the British flag on it! Our flag - the Union Jack or the Union Flag - represents the union of the three nations of the United Kingdom (Wales was considered to be part of England at the time the design was finalised) by cleverly incorporating the flags of England (St George: a red cross on a white background), Scotland (St Andrew: a white saltire on a blue background) and Ireland (St Patrick: a red saltire on a white background).

@owlwings...firstly thank u for giving me knowledge on union jack. Secondly..my statement on indian flag was just to increase curiosity of what our flags mean, to exchange knowledge What the seller did was disrespectful to a country's flag. I have not insulted any country's flag, but just asked for what does each country's flag symbolise - purely with a purpose for exchange of knowledge. I have lived in England for 4 years. I used to work in London. Wat I loved bout living there was, people from all cultures worked together.Live n let live. I loved Scotland & Wales too ( travelled there- beautiful places). I believe in humanity more, than competition in human race / culture race. If my discussion has hurt u in any way, then I shall not bring up this kind of topic in future. Mylot is a platform to start discussions,to make friends, to share knowledge & earn pocket money. If a topic on flag hurts u or disturbs u & ur feelings or anyone's, then its no point to discuss this topic even if it was with the intention to share knowledge. Good day my friend :)

Dear Owlwings.. u took this statement very seriously. I dont understand why we take discussions on religions, flags etc so seriously. We live in 2017, instead these discussion should be taken more positively and with intention of spreading knowledge to people. Its not that I know everything. U see bcuz u shared that article i went online to read the actual symbolism of Indian flag. My yesterday's thought turned into knowledge. Because of shaggin's statement, I am gonna read bout American flag symbolism.

I have no idea what the Indian flag colors mean but I am sure you can find the answers doing a search for more information! The American flag has a neat little history but the explanation would take to long for me to type.

Usually you can find the meaning of the flag by Googling it. I know that the flag represents the blood spilled in the Revolutionary War, blue for bravery, and the stars for the number of states we have. The red and white stripes number 13 for the number of the original 13 colonies.
