What is Blocking Me Today?

Many days slip by and things I need to get done, just don't get done! Today, I know what it is that is getting in the way of my productivity. I have a couple of tasks to do that are not going well and I am completely frustrated with them. This started yesterday. Now I have shoved those tasks aside and am meandering around the internet. I could be getting different things done but instead I am letting my frustration and procrastination for those two tasks kill my motivation to do anything! As I started to write my thoughts on my lack of productivity, I spilled my coffee. That led me to start the washing machine at least. Time to turn off the laptop, make fresh coffee and prod myself to deal with the tasks facing me. Who would have thought spilled coffee could be the prod that would work!

When I get in one of my frustrated moods the way I get motivated is when I think about how much more there will be do if I don't at least do some things right away.

That is a good way to look at it. I WAS telling myself exactly that all week. And now, today I have so much to do because I didn't listen to myself!!! I guess I should be glad for the few little things I did get done.

I know what you mean, there are days that I have great intentions of getting things accomplished, and then I sit here and start doing stuff online, and the next thing I know I've lost quite a bit of time.......Let's blame it on cyberspace not ourselves!!

Yes, darn that cyberspace. Lucky I didn't have it when I had small children!

@Juliaacv hmmm, interesting question. My husband does seem to think the internet gets too much of my attention.

Spilled coffee sometimes is a trigger, not something we really need, but this time it was useful.

@paigea I can understand, coffee is not easy to wash away.

@LadyDuck That day it was just on a throw rug that can go in the washing machine. I drink my coffee black so it washed out easily. However a spilled it on the bedroom carpet another day and that stain is not completely out.

We brought similar cups home from Portugal a few years ago. We used them constantly and they finally got too chipped to use. So that picture is from the internet.

@Jeanniemaries Yes, but better to use it than to have some souvenir that just collects dust. It was a great memory trigger every morning when I used it.

@paigea I love mugs and always choose a different one for my morning cup. It's a shame when one chips. It's hard to toss them, especially when they have good memories of a trip taken.

I find once you get started then you get the motivation to keep going. It is the getting started that can be the problem..lol The spilled coffee was just the motivation you needed!!

@paigea I wish it was, but no such luck on that one. With 5 children living here.....and the adults too, the kitchen floor is never clean. It's quite maddening to me...if any floor needs to be clean, it's the kitchen!

ha I know what you mean friend. I hope now that your gears have shifted and you can carry on being productive, though I am sorry to hear you spilled your coffee. I try to remember that once I do just the first step, I will get on a roll and keep going.

I am really lazy, I spend time here, I spend a lot of time painting and very little time cleaning. Hubby takes care of the kitchen and food, I fill the dishwasher and do the laundry and when the dust is so thick I can see it, I dust and use the vacuum...but not before...

I don't call that lazy because you are doing things meaningful to you - painting, etc. I have too many days that slip by without bothering to do the things I enjoy. Anyway not going to lament that today. Going to pick something to enjoy!

@marsha32 Well yesterday, I went to the city to visit my aunt in the hospital. That pretty much took up my whole day. Today I have been productive a little in the house, and every little task counts! and I went for a good brisk windy walk. Feeling ready to face a week of working every day!

We'll take whatever prodding we can get. I'm a bit surprised to find you've written something new already. I happened upon this on another person's activity list. I have much to accomplish today as wall since I'm having my surgery tomorrow morning I'm trying to get everything put away that I won't need for the next three months and do other things to get ready too. I'm here checking up things as well. I did come online to see if our recycling center takes back plastic grocery bags like they used to do, but I found out they do not. Then I paid a bill and meandered over here. Once I respond a discussion from the person's profile I was just at, I'll get back to some of my tasks again.

@paigea I realized this post was from before and didn't think you'd write another so quickly so wasn't looking. I've also saved a bit of things to accomplish and still want to hang here or play games on my tablet in between doing things. My last little load is in the laundry. When it's done I'll bring up a suitcase and do the packing. I still want to get our couch cleaned off, and do a bit more organizing around my desktop and make sure I've not missed any bills that will be due in the next week or so in case I won't be able to easily sit at my desk for a bit.
