My son is 14. He went on his first official date tonight.
Although technically with the last girl he was dating he did meet her, her 2 sisters, and their boyfriends for ice cream, and I considered that his first date.
But tonight it was just him and the girl. They went to see a movie. Tomorrow is the girl's birthday.
They saw A Dog's Purpose. He said it was sad, but also happy. It looks really cute and I think I want to see it..
He had a great time. It was actually also his first time seeing a movie in theaters. We don't go to theaters very much due to the cost. We do tend to take the kids to the drive in every summer.. but not usually a theater.
But it's odd because all my other kids have been to a theater, except him..
A night of firsts for him..
How old were you when you went on your first date?

How sweet! Sounds like he had a nice first experience with his date! You have drive-ins out there? Sadly we don't have any around here anymore . . . there used to be a drive ins close to my parents' house.
My parents didn't allow me to date. So I was "set up" on a lunch date in high school . . . maybe about 15 years old? But I was so quiet and mousy back then . . . I was mortified that my friends set me up when I was completely not ready for it.
I was so uncomfortable that even the guy said I was too quiet for him - and that was that.

We have 2 drive ins nearby.. one is closer than the other. They're cheap and usually have double or triple features, but obviously only in the summer. We like to go once a year for the experience.

@katsmeow1213 Yah, I miss the drive ins . . . that was a good deal - and a fun family memory! I loved the picnic dinners my mom used to make on those outings!

Not many people do remain friends with their high school sweethearts.

I don't recall my first date honestly so it must not have been anything very exciting. That is nice that he enjoyed his first time at the movies. I have not heard of this movie yet. That's not the one where they forced the dog into churning water was it?

@katsmeow1213 Yes thankfully the dog wasn't hurt but I felt so bad for it the way they forced it to. They should have just used a fake robotic dog. I will still watch it on Netflix or something but not go to the movies to see it. I agree with you how expensive the movies are. There is one that charges $5 per ticket on Sundays. Then about an hour from me is one that is a discount cinema and it is $3 a ticket. You have to wait a month or more for the movie to leave the other theaters before it comes to the discount one.

@shaggin We have a couple discounted ones as well.
I'll probably see this when it's on video. I plan to see Beauty and the Beast in theaters in a few weeks!

Yes it was, unfortunately. But I mean, the dog wasn't hurt.. he just didn't want to go into the water. Could have been worse.

Wow, a true night of firsts. I wasn't allowed to date until I was 18 - and then my first "date" (if you call it that - he came to my place and watched tv) happened when I was 19. It wasn't great. My first actual go out and do something with someone "date" happened when I was in my early 20s. I hope your son has better experiences than I did. :-)

I didn't really go on any dates until I was 18/19 either.. and I never went on many. My first boyfriend like to just watch tv at my place or his.. we didn't do many dates.

He has been to many dances with girls already.. he didn't count those. Also he's had a girlfriend since he was 11.. his first two girlfriends lasted a year. This one he's been with for 4 months.
He's such a Casanova, LOL

Cute! I'm glad he enjoyed going to the movies. I was in 4th grade and went to a dance with a boy my father approved. My granddaughter went out to dinner at age 5 with a boy that is still madly in love with her. The mothers went to dinner with them and sat a few tables away.

How adorable!
My son has introduced himself to the girl's family. Her father is a correction's officer, but they seem to like my son very much. What's not to like, he's a great kid, good grades, very involved in school, band, musicals, etc..

I'm old fashioned. Seems a bit young to be dating. My first date was when I was 17. It didn't last more than one or two dates. He was a real jerk.

He's a natural romantic.. he's had girlfriends since he was 11, and they each lasted a long time too. This is his 3rd "love".

The girl he's seeing, they've been friends for years and have been "together" 4 months already. They like each other a lot so being out together was very enjoyable for them both.

Hi there, I believe Katsmeow isn't your actual name...It's a cute description. Driving every summer is cool compared to a 2 hr movie. but that expression fails when it comes to going to a theater with our loved ones. I wish your son's relation seed will grow like a tree and last forever. I am 23 and still waiting for one.
