First Day at MyLot

I learned about MyLot yesterday when researching sites that pay you to post, but don't require you to post their content to social media. MyLot is hopefully the answer I am looking for. Years ago my mom and I posted on Gather.com when you could earn points for posting and then exchange those points for gift cards including cards to places like Starbucks, Target, Lowe's, etc. or you could exchange them for items, our first k-cup brewing system was earned this way. I know not to expect a lot of income from this and at most will most likely only earn 2-5 a month depending on how active I am, and this is not an issue for me at all, so please do not think of me as a "noob" who's only looking to get rich quick.
My other reason for stopping in and signing up is the fact that having an active community to interact with by posting often will hopefully keep me in the practice of writing daily. Funny, a writing tutor/teacher who wants to write more than she already does for her job? My career is education my passion is writing and I don't always get to write about the topics that interest me while on the clock, especially this year. Two years ago I was teaching beginner's French as a long-term substitute, last year I was teaching 12th grade English/Language Arts while beginning the teacher certification process, this year I am in a new city with a new opportunity as a writing tutor for the state standardized test working with 7th graders.
"So why are you teaching and not writing?" some may ask, and many already have. I've attempted to turn one passion (jewelry crafting) into a career and found myself unhappy in such a situation and hung up my pliers and packed away my beads for a long time. I don't want the same to happen with pen and paper, words and imagination. Teaching also allows me the chance to work with students and develop their confidence in their own writing skills-- not everyone loves writing, but everyone has the ability to be an amazing writer if they have the right tools and skills.
"Well, Ms. Teacher do you always spend your free time writing when you aren't working at school?" My students love getting to know about their teachers so I'm honest with them. The majority of my free time is not spent writing, although some of it is. I split my time evenly between a few passions including jewelry work (yes, I've dusted off the pliers and unpacked those beads), playing Minecraft, and creating pixel art.
For my first post I know this might be boring, it might be interesting, it might leave some with questions of which I'm more than willing to answer so please comment away! If any veterans of MyLot have advice for us new comers to the site please share those as well.

Only advice I can give is to follow the rules and play nice. If you do that you will get along fine with no issues.

Welcome yo MyLot. I write about things that are important to me, (I think of MyLot as my soapbox.) things that I think people might want to know about, share meme's for my #It'sCooltobeKind Campaign and funny and light things to make people smile.

I was with Gather years ago also. I never liked it very much because it wasn't that easy to navigate the site. It was always slow and sluggish. I also belonged to MyLot as well at the time. And I have to say that MyLot was and still is a way better site than Gather ever was. You came to the right place. Welcome. MyLot is a wonderful place to be. There is one other writing site that I think would fit you as well. I use both, MyLot, being my number one and the other site being my number two. The differences are here, it is more personal and everyday postings. The other side is more in-depth with actual writing, stories poems and many other topics to pick from. So I feel I have the whole scope taken care of. Enjoy your time here in MyLot. You will not regret it.

Welcome. I hope you start to think of MyLot as an interactive journal ... kind of 'a garden where you can cast your thoughts (like Jesus's Sower in His "Parable of the Soils") where the thoughts will often land on the soil-type (right mind) that'll grow a hundred-fold harvest!'
