Spider Alert!

I know many believe that Australia is full of snakes and spiders. It's getting pretty crowded in Australia too with too many people encroaching on our beautiful country. So here is a very good reason why you should all stay home in your own countries. You can still send money though!
And I may not be here much in the morning as we are going to a barbecue. Some of you will know we have music evenings outside each summer in Donnybrook, Western Australia. These friends wanted us to have a 'poets and story-tellers' evening as one of our outdoor events. We weren't keen as we don't think there is much general appeal so we suggested they have something at their place as they have a lovely house which would hold sufficient people for an enjoyable afternoon.
So tomorrow is it. I will read two of my three doggerels and Vince will do one of my monologues. Some members of the local bush poets' group will no doubt contribute to the afternoon's entertainment too. So I'll see you after it's all over. And isn't my spider lovely and furry?

Yes, your spider looks so scary! Good thing there's no snake beside it!

I don't like snakes much but they mostly run from you if they can.

Spiders and snakes - two things that top my list of "not in my backyard!"

It looks like you will have a great time tomorrow
Spiders and snakes would not stop me to visit a place. I had a large Tegenaria spider, about 10 cm, in my previous house, hiding behind a heater. They are harmless and shy with humans, but useful somewhere as they eat other bugs and spiders, and they can be interesting pets. I named this one "Câline"/Cuddly, and it was showing when I was calling it.

@JudyEv It was there since more than 2 years. And, yes, it was a "she" because males are fighting between them and are living only during a few months, while a female lives approximately 5 years. It is the larger spider in France and some people are breeding them. They are amazing.

Are the spiders in Australia big enough to keep as pets? haha
I had a scare the other day when I was cleaning out my old house (I am in the process of moving to a new house) when I picked up a box and a brown recluse spider went crawling across my hand. For a split second I though the spider bit me, which would have sent me into a pure panic. Brown recluses are the most venomous spiders in the US.

@JudyEv I'm sure the adrenalin kicks in very quickly! Thankfully, I've never been bitten by a brown recluse, so I don't know from experience what it's like!

@moffittjc Apparently the bite from a redback is extremely painful too but not fatal as we were always led to believe.

They are amazing looking creatures up close. Yes, it will be goo not to have to worry about anything really - except having to read my poem. I got so tongue-tied last time I was very embarrassed. I think I'll just read it tomorrow.

I would love that kind of event. Some time last year, I went to a poetry reading event and I enjoyed listening to emotions uttered through poems.

Enjoy your day and night full of music and fun! I think my skin crawls just by seeing that spider, glad they do not look like that here . . .
