My friend had a travel to Male, the capity city in Maldives. When I looked at this city name at first, I found it very amusing. She had a travel in a city called Male

I have not travelled there before. According to the photos she posted online, it is so beautiful there

The name is not Male is Malé and you pronounce it the French way.

In reality the name of the city is Malé with an accent on the final e, without the accent you cannot pronounce it correctly.

@youless For Italians and French accents are very important, because you cannot pronounce many words if you take off the accents.

It does look a lovely city. There is a village in Ireland called Portmuck which I always thought was a strange name.

@youless We toured Ireland in a motor-home in 2015 and visited Portmuck. Today we booked our tickets to go back to Ireland in May. We have a son there.

We live near a little tiny town named Conetoe. You can tell when people aren't locals, they pronounce it like it looks: Cone Toe. But it's a Native American word pronounced Kuh NEE' Duh.
