Have you ever let any food burn?

March 3, 2017 2:30pm CST
As attentive or as good a cook as you are, I think this has happened to you too, hasn't it? Obviously this is not intentional (at least not for me) because the reasons for us to "let" a food burn can be as varied as possible (the most common being forgetfulness). Have you had this unpleasant experience?

This was several years ago and it was really a silly mistake. I was feeling a bit down and felt like I had a virus coming. However hubby should have something to eat. So I put on a pot of stew or something just to heat up so that I could lay down while waiting. I fell asleep and hubby was resting and watching a video. When I got up he didn't know I had but anything on. I had totally forgotten and remarked that the neighbors must really be cooking up a storm. by the time we got downstairs the stew was completely burned to the pot. It happens to the best of us. So now if I am not feeling well hubby gets something to eat by himself.

Interesting experience you have narrated. But I feel better if some technology like a siren or something of that sort is there. So that this will save lots of time for many households all over the world. You seem to have enjoyed this incident. Its a good feeling.

Yes even I have had had the experience of milk boiling on the stove and me forgetting that I had placed the same. It has also happened once or twice of having something which is cooked for heating and forgetting about the same till one gets the smell and comes to know what happened. But after these few experiences I make it a point to be in the kitchen if something is on the stove and not get involved in other works when cooking. Thanks for reminding me some past instances.

I have mostly burnt food when I've got too engrossed in a book. I stopped reading for years because of this - and because I was busy with a young family.

Oh yes, I've had this experience a handful of times. Some of the foods that I burnt the most are pancakes, toast, melted chocolate, and cookies. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if something is fully cooked. For example, when I made pancakes a few times, they got a bit burnt. That's because the middle would still not be fully cooked. Constantly flipping them over and over to make sure they were fully cooked was the biggest factor.

I have burnt a few things. Usually because I have forgotten that I've had something cooking, but sometimes because I put something in the oven and thought it needed longer than it did.

I've burned my chicken soup to ashes.....and if burned my hard boiled eggs. Long story.....there might be a lift hearts post here. I'll have to think about how much mortification I can deal with.
