The Key

There seems to have been a lot of talk about money on myLot lately. Money in accounts, money spent, money earned, money lost, payday money, menial job money, etc. I thought I'd add my two cents worth. Our older son was invited to become a member of Phi Beta Kappa while he was in college. Our son was a very good student and won many awards and top honors. But he received a framed copy of his Phi Beta Kappa award with a key, see photo, embedded within the glass frame. I jokingly called it "the key to nowhere", but I was wrong. This Phi Beta Kappa award, among others, led to a terrific resume, which eventually led to a top of the line career in law. He just informed us of the stock option dividends he received from his firm and company, and, the over $300,000.00 yearly bonus!!!! That doesn't even include his salary and raise. That's the last time I will discuss money on myLot, until next time.

That is amazing! That is a huge amount of money just as a bonus! My boyfriend gets a few hundred dollars as a bonus each year if he is lucky. It would take him many years to even make that amount of money. His pay is considered really good pay around this area. We live in one of the poorest counties.

I had to search to know what Phi Beta Kappa is. Now I know. What an honour. Are you comfortable in your son's company?

Companies are impressed with awards, especially if this key was only given to the best. I think that those memberships are actual keys to professional life because members support and promote each other. I have seen this happening in my country as well, this "key" helps the holders to enter a community of people and create a great social network and future professional opportunities.

I never received that Greek Key, but it certainly looked good when he applied to law school and subsequently to corporations. Thank you!

@DianneN We don't have this exact organization here but there are similar communities, like private organizations, companies or even private schools and universities that promote the sense of uniqueness to their members.
