Which way would you like to pursue your dreams?

We all have dreams and goals to achieve but we may not follow the same path to follow our dreams and goals. If there are following three paths, which one would you prefer:- 1) You run alone, keep all others behind you and achieve your goals. 2) You putting pressure on others and putting burden on them, snatch from others and kill others emotions and then achieve it. 3) You follow your dreams by keeping smile on your face, be polite, be patient, be clam and do lots of hard work and achieve it so people behind you can also enjoy it.

I wish I could consistently do number 3 but sometimes I end up doing number 2.

In which cases you ended up doing number 2 options?

I followed number 3 and of course it did not work, because I was unable to go to the college I would have chosen to become an architect. I did not want to have an arguments with my parents, I have been polite and I have not pursued my dream.

You opted for number 3 approach but you could not fulfill your dreams this way. But I don't think that sweet and nice people like you would have opted for 1 or 2 either.

@dpk262006 No, I would have never insisted and I did not want to fight with my parents to do what I had in my mind. After all it turner out not too bad for me, because I met my husband the first day I was employed.

@LadyDuck Yes, some of us cannot defy our parents and this is what you did. Nonetheless, it turned out to be blessing in disguise for you, as you were happily married and you have been living a comfortable life.

I would have to say 3 for sure . . . it is ideal, but it's never always as smooth as that. Then 1 would come next . . . only because that is what the situation is at times, not a fault of your own. But 2 is NOT me. It is nasty to step on people just so you could climb to a higher ground. But I do know people who have done that - and guess what - they have achieved their dreams . It is bad that they have reached the top at the expense of others . . . but in a sad way you almost need that aggressiveness in order to get to certain places. If that is the case, then I don't want to be at the very top - it is not worth it to me.

Yes, you are right that a sane person would choose option 3 because it does not harm others and if you achieve your goals through this option, this gives you a kind of satisfaction. I agree with you that things are not always smooth but the end result could be satisfactory. I have seen very few who opt for 1 or 2 to succeed. Those who choose number 2 to succeed are really nasty and I am sure are not appreciated by people around them and in society.

@much2say Yes, you are right that the one who achieves his goals through No.2 method, may feel lonely, when he reaches at the top because he had used others to achieve his goals. Yes, you pointed out correctly that if there is only one post for promotion, only one guy could be promoted. And understandably, the best one gets promoted.

@dpk262006 Number 2 is not cool for sure. The person may have achieved their goal . . . but it's possible that person will be very, very lonely at the top. The reason I said 1 is because sometimes it is not the person's fault that they must run alone - that is the way the situation is. If only 1 person can get promoted, then only that one is chosen - all the rest will stay behind, for that particular moment anyway.

@dpk262006 You can say that. That was my dream and I did not disturb anyone else's apple cart to achieve that.

I have always achieved all of my goals without deploying 1 or 2 or 3. What I find disappointing is that achieveing my goals did not make me more happier than I was...

Which other option did you use to achieve your goals, besides the three listed in the discussion? I think one should feel satisfied if s/he has achieved his goals. To me either goals were not fully achieved or were achieved very late, therefore, you did not feel happy.

@dpk262006 lol. well, I've always worked with people to achieve my goals. There's no need to do either 2 or 3, both are extremes. find a common ground and push forward has helped me very well. And no, the goals were fully achieved and timely achieved.. it just didn't bring me the happiness i think it should. I find myself wanting MORE. I don't think one would feel satisfied just by the act of achieving something you set out to do. in fact, that's an illusion of one who have yet to achieve the goal. Once you have achieved the goal, you will find an odd sense of "anti-climax". you were happier working towards the goal than achieved it and go "well, is that it????"

I believe walking with integrity in life is very important . If you are true to yourself then nobody can harm you , so obviously number 3 is best

I would be between 1 and 3. We can't keep everyone satisfied so maybe I belong more on the first path.

@besweet Yes, you are very right that if we choose our own path and even if we fail to achieve our goals, we cannot blame anyone else. Blaming others for our failures is not appropriate.

@dpk262006 I think that people who make their own choices can only blame themselves if they don't achieve their goals eventually. When we base our choices on other people's wants, it is more possible to blame them later which is unfair.

My dreams were fulfilled 17 years ago when we stopped working and moved south when we were still young enough to enjoy 'retirement'.

#3 would be my choice. The journey to pursue my dream is going to be tough, but as long as I'm patient and put in the work, everything will come together.

I also feel that number 3 is the better option among three. If we keep patience and show honesty, we will win in the long run.

Do you really think anyone going to accept that they will follow path no. 1or 2 but they do. When the question of success comes most of the people do that. There are people who follow path 3but you will not find them always successful.

Yes, you are right that there would comparitively be very less number of people who choose paths mentioned in options 1 and 2 for attaining success. Following option No. 3 will make some of the people successful because honesty and hard work always pay.
