Favorite Bands You Might Not Know #10 - 10 Foot Ganja Plant

Having finished up my 70's R&B Songs series, it's time for another. Since I am, at the moment, doing a Live Bands countdown, I figured I'd stick with the "Band" theme. Not to be confused with the Underrated Bands thing I did awhile back, here are my Favorite Bands You Might Not Know (with not one band making both lists!) #10: 10 Foot Ganja Plant.
New York-based reggae band 10 Foot Ganja Plant formed in Boston in 1999 as a spinoff group from reggae group John Brown's Body.
Not much is known about 10 Foot Ganja Plant, as the band is veiled in a cloak of secrecy (although reportedly, no members currently double down with John Brown's Body.) The band member's names have always been kept secret, although if you do a Google search, under the Wikipedia link option, members are listed as Kevin Kinsella, Craig Welsh, and Ras Jay Champany. The Wikipedia page itself, however, lists no one and also touts the "shroud of secrecy." All I know is that the band's website is no help, either. The guys don't even take credit for the reggae album reviews that they post.
Playing roots and dub reggae, often within the same song, 10 Foot Ganja Plant do it the right way. There are no guest dancehall toaster's to boost sales (I've never understood the popularity of dancehall. I can count the number of toaster's that I enjoy on one hand. I'm just old school, I guess.) They also don't do pop reggae, or "reggae light," such as what Third World became (Maxi Priest would be another example.)
Nope, 10 Foot Ganja Plant does roots and dub. And they do it well. And for that I thank them.

You're right, I don't know this band! Their niche audience does like their reggae.

They're the best reggae band I've heard in a long time. I can't even listen to the new stuff.

@spiderdust - This pop reggae that you hear these days, every song has a guest toaster, it's just awful. Give me Black Uhuru anytime.

That one I'm not familiar with. Does it mean take a chance? If so, I'm using it!

@teamfreak16 Indeed, it does. I think it is a gambling term. Gamblers used to be called punters, but now it seems to apply to anyone spending money

You're right, I don't know them. That's definitely not "Pass the Dutchie" pop reggae!

Not at all. These guys are pretty serious about it. It comes through in their album reviews.
