About 320 meters away!
I have not chased any because we don't get that sort of weather here. But I do take pictures of lightning. We get loads of lightning here in the rain season. I would like to see a real tornado in action and would also like to see the force of a hurricane, as long as I come out of it not getting killed or hurt! Have you chased any of these storms?

My aunt is a professional storm chaser. She's been doing it for twenty odd some years. When I was in jr high and high school. I use to chase storms with her on my spring break and summer vacations. Saw a lot of cool things and a lot of devestation. Makes you appreciate weather a little bit more. That's for sure.

yes it really makes you proud of the things you have because mother nature can and does at times take things away. I always say Mother nature can have only my material things but please don't take my family and friends away.

I we did during Katrina .WE seen that the homes on the water were gone before the surge. We out in the middlw of the surdge breaking a damn that was makeing the water start to come in the back of our home no water JUST sewage.I was there the next day as they were throwing bobies out from under the debris that had not made it. I seen the loss in everyones eyes.I felt the helpless waiting on help to arrive because the were so worried about new orleans to think about us in Mississippi. The damage here was from that damn katrina not from some leeves breaking.and people sitting with there hands out.We have work to repair our homes and cities.and have done a damn good job so far.

My brother is into this somewhat, or was before becoming a dad. I don't get it though. We live in an area prone to tornados. I don't think it's wise to second guess mother nature which is what you have to do to be a storm chaser.

you must have a cellar to go to. We use to have one where we lived before. But now we don't and I like to watch the weather so I always sit near the entrance trying to look out to see what was happening.

Yeah but there is no way to be 100% safe, especially when mother nature is so unpredictable. It is a chance you take. Thanks for the response

Thanks for your response, There are more people who are just like you. I use to be that way and then I realized it was just a fear I had for the unknown ability of mother nature.

Yeah it takes lots of will power and nerve I am sure, something I want to do but don't have the nerve yet..Maybe some day I will get the chance and hopefully mother nature will be nice and play fair.

No I don't like to do that. I love storms if I am indoors, at night. Love to sit with a blanket around my legs, a cup of hot tea or coffee, the window with the screens/curtains drawn on one side (so that the lightening doesn't blind, if sitting facing the window, but some flashes are sometimes so strong, if close by that you could get momentarily blinded), maybe reading or watching something, my family huddled close, my youngest son with his head on my lap or his mother's lap, all of us speaking in hushes, just huddling close, no fear of storms in me though. Maybe a small lamp, or in the dark.
