Money No Object

I was thinking about all the things people spend money on every day. Some of them we all must have and others are dreams that we would spend money on now. I wanted to know what are some of the things you would buy, if you won or were given a large amount of money by a relative?
I am sitting here thinking about how much easier life is when all the bills are paid. The important things are stress free and I can sit talking to friends with a glass of orange juice and a water. What are you doing now?

That is a good way to look at it. Anything we can do to make life easier is great news.

@Fishmomma We already have a house and we just changed the car, there is nothing more I could wish, but more money is great to feel more comfortable.

@LadyDuck We have a house, but haven't finished paying for it. Houses are really high in this state. Only about 31% can buy a house, as they are expensive.

Have you checked out the blog of Mr Money Mustache?
He sure is a great example of good money management.
He retired at 30 before the birth of his son.
I think everyone can learn something from his examples.
If paying routine bills are a headache, something is wrong somewhere.

I haven't and will take a look. Money management is important. Paying bills isn't a headache for me and I pay all my bills every month. I just wanted to know if people won a large amount of money would they spend or save.
I went to the web site and agree with some of the site. I like my job and make a difference helping other people and plan to keep working. Yes, I could retire; however, being able to donate to local charities that need clothes and food is important to me. I wouldn't be able to help as many people, if I retired.

@scheng1 My neighbor rents out part of their house to pay the mortgage. Our daughter lives with us and two of my other neighbors have family members living with them, as houses are expensive in this state. Only 31% can afford to buy a house. The biggest reason is they don't make enough money, as you can't have a minimum wage job in this state and buy a house. That is the reason I agree with only some of what he is saying. Houses are cheaper in other states. My entire family works here and we enjoy our jobs.

@Fishmomma His blog contains a number of case studies from real persons who are seeking advice.
There is one from a minimum wage worker who manages to buy a house, and rent out part of the house to someone else to help pay for mortgage.
That is surely a very good example of wise money management.
If minimum wage worker can get married, has baby, and buy a house, everyone else who can work can do that.

Depending on how much money we are talking here... Besides the idea of getting a better house in a better location.. the only thing frivolous that I have always wanted and probably will never be able to get because of money and practicality is a 1968 Pontiac GTO convertible (preferably) this is a picture of my dream car.. including color - this is exactly like the car my Dad had when I was a kid- and If money was NO object - i want this one

That is a nice car. I really like the older cars, as my brother and I could work on the car. It use to look like there was a car lot in my front yard with all the parts.

It is 8 AM here, and I am prepering to be gone to the Oregon coast for three days. The weather is iffy, but my wife has three art quilts entered in a show there. We''ll have a great view of the Pacific. I am drinking coffee and eating cereal too.

Hope your wife wins. I miss Oregon, as lived there a lot of years. A lot of rain on the coast. Have a safe trip.

At this point in time I would bank it while looking for a piece of property where we could build a modest retirement home. Then in 18 months we would go on the trip we have been dreaming of for years.

I use the money only for strictly personal needs. Do not spend money on all the things that I find interesting but useless. I love being a healthy person. Every day, i eat a apple and i drink a bottle of water. In some situation, is good to save money, because we don't know when we need a small amount of money. That is just my opinion. It depends on what you want to do.

I agree saving money is important, as there are emergencies that we can't predict. Some of the money would be used towards paying off my house and might use some to start a business.

I really have nothing on the top of my list, I would redo my kitchen and floors in my house and put in a new deck. I could use a new furnace but these are all things that are not necessary. I am happy as I am.

I have old floors and counters. They add character to my home. I think if its not a problem in my old house, then I'm not changing it.

@Fishmomma If I get a huge amount of money, the first thing I would like to do is buy a small, but comfortable house and then buy books of my choice. Then I would set off on a journey to North India.
