My problems with AT&T Internet--discuss PLEASE!! LOL

I want to go back to the 1970s! On Friday morning, March 3, 2017, I wanted to get on the Internet for my email and couldn't! I called AT&T and after 2 hours and 10 minutes I found out something was wrong--DUH! Of the 30 people who live here at least 10 were without the Internet and we immediately knew what was wrong--the lawn maintenance people had cut a wire. It took AT&T 4 days to come to the same conclusion and then 4 days to fix the wire. I won't get into the many HOURS I was on the phone those 8 days repeating the same thing to an unaccountable amount of people. Adding insult to injury I was disconnected 4 times--yes, 4 times--from the automated 'man' who understands full sentences. I spent a minimum of 4 hours every day waiting for a technician to come to my place to only tell me it is not my problem but on the outside--by the 3rd day, including last night, before the technician opened his mouth to say hello I answered by telling him exactly what he would find and yes that is what he found and smiling, repeated my words. I was promised by one on Wednesday that it would be fixed by that night or the next morning and on Thursday the technician of the day (I got to meet all 8 of the team here) said that they had it fixed but since it was so late it wouldn't be til tomorrow morning (today) and guess what? Yes 8 days later I tried to get to my email but the Internet connection wasn't working!! It is beyond my comprehension how such a large company like AT&T is so messed up! Each day it was like the whole problem was new. While everything was, supposedly, on my report of calls and what was or wasn't accomplished it was as if Susan didn't talk to Eric or anyone else talked to anyone else. Each time I called it was as if it was a new problem and , remember, there were 9 others calling from the complex with the same problem! I did have one funny conversation with Randy who was on the esculation team. When he answered the phone (after I waited 22 minutes and was cut off by the automatic system!) I explained this was not aimed at him and I was apologizing before I started my rant.He immediately responded that he couldn't do anything but that I should go ahead and I did. He was/is the top man in his department and he said there really was no one higher on the ladder that he could refer me to because all used that automatic system in order to talk to anyone. While I am not saying that Randy was wrong or rude--he certainly was not the latter as I can say about everyone I spoke to though too many read from a script and will not stop talking to hear what you say and/or want until they have finished that particular part of the script. I am not stopping there and will eventually get to the head of the Internet department of AT&T while meanwhile though I haven't heard much better reports about Comcast and other Internet suppliers I certainly wouldn't recommend AT&T even though I get a great rate. I have a lot more to say about this all but I do have a lot of catching up to do. It is surprising how dependent you can become to a 'thing like the Internet, a television set, the phone, etc. (And how I learned to hate 'typing' on a phone and now admire those who do!)

We don't have AT&T here where we live. It is a good thing. I have heard others besides you say they have problems with AT&T.

terrible. seems our world has become better in some ways but most people don't want to do their jobs so we can enjoy it. every once in a great while when i appeal to someone that has a kind heart or really wants to do their job, i get help with these things but they are few and far between. it is just how they do it these days as apposed to how things/people used to be.

AT&T Stinks, we have had them for nearly thirty years. It was originally Bellsouth. We unfortunately have no other options

I have AT&T. I had Time Warner up until a year ago. I only had Internet and phone. I mistakenly thought I was getting a better deal by going with AT&T. They made promises they refused to honor - gift cards for subscribing to their service. I never got them and when I called, I found out they were expired a month after the offer was given, an offer that was neither sent to me by e-mail or post as promised so I could redeem them. I'm under a two year contract. As soon as that contract is up, I will be leaving AT&T. I will probably go back to Spectrum - the new Time Warner, because there is no other option where I live. All their e-mails except the bill, go into junk. I won't even open them up to find out what amazing offers I could get now and the gift card promised with it. They are a totally disreputable company and I will be very happy to wash my hands of them. I hope you get your Internet restored soon.

@GreatMartin I don't have any trouble with the operation only the people who operate it.

I have had issues as well. I'd watch your bill as sometimes they like to charge you extra for talking to a real person! Ours goes out when it's windy sometimes. There's also a glitch where I have to turn my cordless phone / landline phone on til you get the "if you'd like to make a call please hang up" and lots of loud beeping for it to kick on sometimes. Even getting a call on my land line can kick offline.

It's better than the companies that say you should leave your number and they will get back to you when it becomes your turn--sometimes your turn NEVER comes!! LOL

I guess this is one reason why people like living in those 'self-sufficiency' communities ...
The organic property features two homes, an automated enclosed greenhouse, and other structures with a total land area of 65 acres (26 hectares) on 5 sub-div...

Many on this site have mentioned their issues with AT&T so they must not be there best ones out there. We have AT&T here and TWC, so we use TWC. We can't recommend any of the service providers we have used over the years.

We had AT&T several years ago and we had to call them every month about over charges. Other than that it was okay. We changed to infinity and it works all right but it's too expensive. We called AT&T and they were to come out and see if we could use the dish which would be a lower price but they never showed up. After that my better told them not to bother. But I think he will call them again. I don't believe we can use dish because we have too many trees overhead. Good luck to you. I would really miss the computer.

I'm lucky, AT&T is not available in all utah markets. We get stuck with Century Link, which is just as much of a nightmare. I go thru a local company for my intrernet, and just got a wifi router so everything piggybacks on that.
