MyLot. $500 A Week.

Please reread the title carefully. What does it really say?
I know what you thought it meant when you read it. You thought it meant I earn $500 a week on myLot. It does not say that.
Actually what the tile says makes no sense. It’s two independent phrases. Notice I put a period at the end of each. MyLot and Five hundred dollars a week. Yes, you’ve been duped, again.
Before you have a cuss-fest and give your screen the royal finger (in hopes that I can somehow see it through your screen), let me explain.
I don’t know how many times I’ve seen titles claiming unrealistic amounts earned on myLot. Then when I do read the discussions I find they are nothing but gobbledygook. I have a good idea why this is done. It is to bring the maximum people to read the discussion.
You know the old saying–If it sounds too good to be true, then it’s probably not true. Then there is the saying–Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!
I no longer read any discussions about how much money someone has earned on myLot. First off, it’s really none of my business how much you earn on myLot. It is perfectly fine if you want to tell everyone what you earned, but I do not read these discussion even if the amount earned is not farfetched.
I have seen several “How to earn X amount on myLot.” Actually it takes a lot of time and commenting to earn money on myLot. Whether you earn the “X” amount depends on how much time you want to spend on myLot commenting. I think this also leads to comments made when the commenter clearly has not read anything more than the title.
Some people just look at the title and think they know what the discussion is all about. Someone might read a title, “My Baby Cried All Night Long.” So after reading the title the reader jumps down to the comments and writes something like, “Did you burp your baby?” If the reader had read the discussion they might have found what she called her “baby” was actually a baby bovine. (Picture putting that over your shoulder and burping it.)
I guess my rant (if you want to call it that) is over. Oh, by the way, I do not earn anywhere near $500 a month on myLot let alone a week.

One of my favorite discussions in the past year or so was the one where the user (I think TheHorse if I'm remembering correctly) had titled it "How myLot helped me earn (outlandish amount for myLot earnings) today." Predictably, the majority of that amount had been made off myLot, with a few cents from here thrown in to cap it off.
You can always tell who's reading just the title before they respond. It becomes pretty awkward in some situations, like when the poster's title is deliberately misleading and nowhere near related to the actual discussion.

Yes, I read a post similar to that some time ago.
On another site someone wrote a misleading title. Then someone commented that they would no longer read anything else this person wrote and would be turning this person in for writing a misleading title. I thought to myself, where has this person been living, under a rock? There are several misleading titles in newspapers and magazines. This is done to catch the reader attention.

@RichardMeister I've never seen a site that required users to be completely straightforward in their post titles... that's kind of an absurd reaction to have to a post like that.

@owlandbutterfly I thought it was an absurd reaction, too. The site did not require users to be completely straightforward with their titles. I think the person who had the fit was upset because the post was not what this person expected it to be. Anyway, the title was never changed.

There are many here who post titles that have nothing to do with the posts but do so just to attract readers. Readers will read and then move on knowing they were taken for a ride. Sometimes readers will never get back to their posts again.

This is true. Some people will figure if they have been fooled once they will not go for it again.

What bothers me also on other sites is that posts that tell people how they can earn amazing amounts just string the people along because not everyone is capable of earning the same amounts. Anyway I think that we can only do our best and enjoy ourselves while we do it and enjoy whatever money does come along.

I agree with you there. I think if you are here you should be here to have fun and communicate with others rather than trying to make as much money as you can.

'How to earn a fortune' posts so often seem to be from people who have been here for 5 minutes as well, probably not long enough even to get their first payout yet!

Yes, just posts hoping to get as many readers as possible thinking they are going to make a fortune.

Yes, I've seen some crazy comments that have nothing to do with the post but was clearly based on the title alone.

Yes your thoughts are the Truth, and so many people do not realize that if you are wanting to make even the minimum $5 a month here you do need to be active here, and Yes a title can say one thing while the actual paragraph says something else so best be waiting to respond until the very end.

If that potential is there, then I must be doing something wrong here !
We would be lucky to even get that amount here in a lifetime. There's just no way. I do find some of these posts to be amusing though . . . I might humor them to see what they say.
And yah . . . anyone who's been here should know some titles will be tricky . . . and you can just tell when someone did not actually read the post. Baby bovine .

@RichardMeister I actually knew what a bovine was . . . thanks to the Wizard of Oz. The Wizard yelled at the Scarecrow: "You billowing bale of bovine fodder!"

I must be, too. I think you are right about the lifetime unless they start paying a lot more.
Yes, baby bovine. (If you don't know what a bovine is, look it up. Hint: at one time the government paid millions of dollars on the study of bovine flatulence.)

@much2say I watched The Wizard of Oz but don't remember that. Of course it's been many, many years since I watched it.

On other sites I would sometimes put a title and picture that had nothing to do with the actual post just to see how many people actually read the post. I found many who did as you said read the title assumed that's what it was about and would leave a comment showing to those who actually read it that they didn't and had no clue what they were talking about.

And I bet you got a good laugh out of how far off the subject those comments were.

I thought you were going to say you needed $500 a week...I usually read what someone has to say about what they earned, and how well they think they can do.

An extra $500 a week would be nice, but no. I think of myLot as a site where we can communicate with others and have fun rather than seeing how much money can be made.

I want to earn $500 a month, then a week, then a day, and then in less time than that... but I won't earn that here. And I have to work really long hours to make that. I can't just play all the time. But people would hope to make that without work, because, who wouldn't? However, if we all made that, it would be about the same as $5 because it would lose its value.

@RichardMeister The only way to increase the value of money in society is to eliminate the need to spend it. Oddly enough, I know how to do that. Ironically... it takes a lot of money!

I think we would all like to earn more money in less time. But you're probably right. It would probably lose its value.

You didn't fool me. I saw the periods. :-) I agree with you though. While we are free to write about whatever we want within the guidelines - I am always a little disappointed when all people can talk about is the earning potential on here.
