How will you react if somebody butts in your discussion?

I believe this site pays its members with active participation and interaction. I agree to that a hundred percent. But what if you read a comment of somebody that you are not communicating with, and says “yes, right” or “cool!” and that commenter just inserts his/her comment in order to get in to the interaction? Would you ignore, or would you interact with this person too?

For me, the more the merrier Maybe a user is shy as they have just started. Maybe they feel intimidated by the huge numbers that some Lotters have and are afraid to say more. I acknowledge everything on my posts and have got into longer conversations later with those who only left a short comment or a smiley first time round.

@ridingbet Yes in time they get themselves known and make friends and then get more involved in exchaning responses and comments and joining in the fun.

indeed, then when they feel comfortable, they can be more active and interact well to others, and still, because of being so comfortable now, they may tend to butt in others' discussions with the hope of being acknowledged by the author of the discussion.

but what if the comment is only LOL, and the topic discussed is a serious matter? it is either the one who commented the LOL did not read the discussion but just butts in to interact.

ha ha, it always happen, here in mylot or even in our personal activity. There's are lot of people who just butt in as if they were welcome in the discussion. But in here... just ignore it, maybe they just need more activity, we say that in Tagalog "dala ng matinding pangangailangan" (in need most)

@ridingbet .. We have had quite a few merry sessions to know that it is that way. But then, preferences vary. If you do not want it to stray from relevance, you could always avoid the box or folks who tend to stray. :)

If all they said was "yes", "right", or "cool", I'd most likely ignore it. That kind of answer, regardless of the circumstance, is against guidelines here. I might even report it, but in this circumstance I'd be more inclined to ignore it.

Well, I have been known to insert myself into ongoing discussions... you may remember how we met, Ingrid? (grinning at you!) I actually tried to talk to one person who kept butting into discussions but wouldn't reply to me. I finally ask him to quit talking in my discussions all together.

@ridingbet Yes, I met @Lucky15 at the same time that I met you. (I actually wasn't going to say anything but thought she was a teen who needed help with her pc. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have butted into the conversation between you and Reine like that.) And yes, I am talking about Hay-soos. (That is as close as I can get to the Spanish pronunciation of his given name.) I did try to talk to him when he first started talking in our discussions but he ignored everything I said to him. I have no clue why. After about a week or so of him leaving nonsensical comments I started deleting his comments when/as I could.

I don't understand. Are you saying that only people you pick should answer your discussions? You can't pick and choose on a discussion forum. Am I wrong for interacting since I don't know you?

@ridingbet I thought you were saying that we should not butt in. You said not to answer if you were not communicating. I answer a lot of people I don't know and have gotten to know some of them better. How am I supposed know if someone does want me to answer? This is a discussion forum which means that if we answer, we are not butting in. I welcome everyone who wants to comment.

I am asking a question here ma'am and any comment is welcome here. Sure I don't know you but if you interact with others through this discussion,we may shed some light here and get to know each other better. If you think it is wrong to interact because we do not know each other, it is your own prerogative and I am not creating animosities here. Thank you.

First, if it's done by someone I'm not familiar with i might look at their profile first and see whether they respond in that manner all the time or here and there. Also, how long they've been with the site or how active they've been in the last year may let you know what they may or may not know. I do know that mylot was run a bit differently in the past before it was closed around 2013, so for some that were here many years back but returned more recently they many not know what's expected of them on this newer mylot. Each of us here may handle the same types of comments in completely different ways.

@ridingbet Then they are still in the learning process. If they aren't allowed to 'butt' in then they'll never know how to do things correctly. When they see longer comments might provide more fodder for their own comments to become discussion it may spur them to change accordingly. If they continue in that mode, you do have the choice to delete their response as Anna said.

@MarshaMusselman that is true, i agree with you. but isn't it too long to be in a learning process if it takes 3 or more discussions of butting in in order to join a group? there is one here who butts in even though the person's presence;nay! existence, is no longer recognized. this person butts in and her/his comments are most often neglected by other commenters.

you can interact and remind them about the rules, or even, try to clarify what the comment was all about. im sure that they'll soon develop an attitude for learning and being prudent when posting comments.
