We are travelling home from North Carolina.
There is a severe winter storm that could impact the last four hours of our trip!
My data plan does provide me with Internet access in the US.
Every stop included a few minutes at McDonalds....the provide free WiFi.
My husband would grab a coffee, I would pop on the Internet and check the weather forecast for several options for our route.
We hadn't planned to head this fa today, but decided that getting this far today meant we will hopefully only need to deal with about 200 miles of nasty roads and poor visibility.
Tomorrow, we will have one more look at the forecast before we begin the last stage of our trip home.

@Morleyhunt I was just in the kitchen and the newscaster was talking about problems crossing the border into Canada. I didn't stay to listen to the whole thing though. Wonder what that is all about, do you know?

@ScribbledAdNauseum I know that we have had a large number of "refugees" walk into Canada in the Manitoba area.

@Morleyhunt I am glad you arrived at home. We were blocked in a blizzard some years ago, in the middle of a freeway, 12 hours there waiting for the snowplows to remove the snow, remove the trucks and finally allow the cars to move. Since that day we never move when a snow storm is announced.

@LadyDuck back in 1977 our corner of the world had a blizzard. The temperatures plummeted...some snow fell, but the snow on the frozen lake caused more problems....it bles off the lake with hurricane force wind....stranding people in their cars, homes and places of employment....there were children stranded at school...

McD saved my life almost for a month when I was in Japan. At the very beginning I did not know anything about the restaurants there. And I did not like Japanese food as I don't like fish. And also everything Japanese restaurant was written in their language. So, I used to go to the McD, they had English menu. I used to point out some Chicken burger. I had that same menu at lunch almost for a month. Later I got few friends and found out several Indian, European restaurant.

At least at McDonald's you could always point to the picture. They are the same in any language.

We really appreciated the free wifi...it gave us opportunities to keep in touch with family and to try to check out our route in advance.

@Marilynda1225 withe the wind bringing lake effect snow....plus drifting....that was the worst part of the trip. About 50 miles of white outs and poor road conditions.

@MarymargII I've used a lot of Tim Hortons wifi, but when travelling in the US there isn't a Timmies on every corner.

Free wifi is probably my number one reason for visiting McDonald's. They make a good coffee as well. We have experienced some nasty coffee while travelling. Not at McDonald's.

@Morleyhunt No, when I go to McDonald's, be sure I will go to have a fastfood meal there. And taking advantage of their wifi is just another good service for me.

Unlimited free internet access while you are in the restaurant...I'm sure if you never buy anything they would probably ask you to leave.

@Morleyhunt here in the UK (in my area) we rarely have extreme weather.
When we do it is floods rather than snow as I live by a major UK river that floods often.
