Going blindly into a blind date - would you?

Recently Laurel @Happy2BeMe told us about finding love through online dating. She met the guy 6 years ago and it worked out for them. We always hear about the bad things that can happen meeting people that way, but there are also good stories with happy endings.
I didn't do online dating but I did 'friend-line' dating. I was divorced for 16 years - I was not looking for a new man in my life but friends always insisted that they had 'the perfect guy' for me. Most were far from perfect and not for me. I was better off alone. I had a wonderful job, beautiful condo, lots of friends who were in similar situations.
Then, out of the blue, one of the ladies in my group decided I should go out to dinner with a man she worked with. His wife had died and he was just trying to get back into 'dating'. I put her off and put her off until finally one day in late May 1997 I said "OK, give him my number."
She did, he called, we met, it didn't go well. We were total opposites. His friends told him to try again, and my friends gave me the same advice. It is a good thing they kept after us as here we are.
This coming Memorial Day it will be 20 years since that first meeting. We got married 8 months later and, believe it or not, we eloped! We both had a big weddings already so it didn't take much for us to decide to go to Maryland and get married by a Justice of the Peace.
If it is meant to be, then it will happen. I was not looking for love but I found it anyway!

I love your story, love comes when you do not expect it. The first encounter with my husband did not go well either. I met him at the office where I worked, he was one of the partner. I found him very cold and demanding about the work. I finally learnt to appreciate him, we started to go out together 8 months later and we finally got married 6 month after we started dating.

@AbbyGreenhill He is still very demanding for what concerns work, but now I feel more confident to say "if you do not like what I did, do it yourself"

It just goes to show that in the end, we will be where we are supposed to be. I met my hubs on a blind date and here we are 52 years later.

@1creekgirl I was too you, only 14 on that first date, we got married 3 years and a month later when I was 18. But I knew just about from that first date that he was the one I would spend my life with.

I have heard of several successful marriages of couples who met online. I think too that many times when a person isn't really looking is when love comes their way. Weird how that happens.

@AbbyGreenhill .....Glad it works for you. I think I chose men to much like myself. We didn't get along and it was my way or the highway with this last one.

Absolutely, I was not looking, not in the market, had no desire and 20 years later we're still together.

@celticeagle We were (and still are in some ways) total opposites. I lived on chicken, he hated it. I drank Coke he drank Pepsi. He wore cowboy boots, I wear sneakers! But we both smoked and we both enjoy the summer and the pool so we worked around those other things.

glad it worked out so well for you - my only blind date was set up by friends from school who hoped the girl would tell them what I was like with her but I met a different girl entirely by chance and they ended up losing out though the relationship didn't last long it as lovely

@AbbyGreenhill A little at first but they were bemused to see me with a girl - they had convinced themselves I might be gay. They tried following us round until she grabbed one of them and actually punched him - she as quite tempermental

That is a great story. My sister met her husband through a dating site and 16 years later they are still happily married. I met my husband in College back in the 80s. I remember the first day I met my husband, it was just like meeting another student. I had no idea we would get together a year later, date a year and get married. It is true, what is meant to be will happen.
