I was wondering intranet is a great way to connect within as enterprise, So what if government having an official server provide countrywide intranet facility. By doing so government will easily connect to people, they can use it for voting purposes. and Individuals will be able to communicate each other free of cost. Share your thoughts is it possible or not ?

It is certainly possible but I expect the big internet service providers would object.
Over here many places give free internet such as schools, libraries and many hotels bars and cafes do too.
Edit...I misread and thought you meant internet not intranet.
A free government intranet may be good but they'd still have to pay ISPs to use their cables or building a new system would cost billions and not be cost effective.
I'd say no to free government intranet as nothing is really free...we'd pay somewhere along the line.

@Asylum no but totally free internet would put thousands out of work and knock billions off the stock market.

@Mike197602 A free internet would be far more practical, but still very expensive due to the telephone systems used.
