He is going to be two this May end but still just sort of babbles and says only a few words..All my friends and relatives have started advising to get him checked..but I feel it's too early for all that..I mean he is just two years old and not that he doesn't talk at all. He says Mama, Papa,Ta ta, Cow and seven-eight more words. What should I do..get him checked or wait a few more months

My nephew started to talk properly at the age 3. I think it depends on the child. You can still take him to a speech therapist. Maybe he will a solution to this

I wouldn't worry too much but still have a doctor examine him. I live in a house with a family which has four children. Three of them had great problems learning to speak properly. They all went to a special kindergarten and later elementary school where linguists worked with them. Now they're grown-ups and one doesn't notice anything anymore. The first son has a daughter who's 2 1/2 years old. She doesn't talk yet, only says some words. The problem seems hereditary. Albert Einstein, one of the most intelligent people ever, didn't talk before he was three years old.

Personally it is up to you, but considering having him checked out might not be that Bad of a deal just to rule out anything that could be easy to fix.

If he started to say some words then I think no need to worry. Some children talks bit late. It is very common. Who is taking care of your baby. If he is under the care of another person who talks a different language than you then there may be chance the baby gets confused with the spoken language. This has happened with my friend's daughter and once her care taker changed thebn she started to talk a lot in our native language. Then on your next visit to the pediatrician just share this concern with him/her. If there is any problem with his tongue the pediatrician can easily find out. Otherwise there is nothing to worry, just talk to him more often and teach him more vocabulary. He will be a chattering box very soon.

I don't think you need to worry yet.. if he is starting to talk then that is good. he is still young. I hear that boys are often a little bit slower than girls. I would wait a little while longer before worrying.

I have heard the same but the thing is most of the people I meet on daily basis are of the opinion that my son should have started talking by now and I should take him to a doctor as there seems to be a problem. Their comments worry me so much and I feel so helpless.

I think you should get an appointment with the doctor.... (just saying this because there is no harm in that) Or you can wait for a while because he is not even two years old...

It's best to get a consultation especially if you are suspecting something like speech delay. There's no harm in it, a lot of kids these days have it and it's better to know as early so you can cope and help your kid as well. Still, let's hope that nothing is wrong. My niece still can't fully express herself until 3 yrs of age and we thought it was a delay but accdg to the doctor she is only delayed bec we don't talk to her right.

I have a cousin who we see regularly, he turned 2 in Febuary and can talk but you cant really understand what he is saying, you have to really weigh in on it. A lot of the things he says sounds like the goo goo ga's of a baby. You can only hear him clearly on a few words. Everyone has been sitting with him getting them to repeat after them when he wants certain items and he is around a lot of kids his age that talk latley and he is doing a bit better. is your two year old ever around kids his age or older that talk and play along with him? if not try and set up a few play dates not only will it be a good way for him to pick up on words and learn but its always good for kids to interact with other kids every once in awhile.

as i know from experience baby do talk before that, but also some do have little delays which is fine if you find him healthy and has no issues, it will be also relaxing to talk with your specialest about it
