Cutting Calories at a BBQ? Impossible!

There is a quote or a song lyric that says “impossible things happen everyday”. Living in Texas USA, means that your middle name is “barbecue”. (Where all my Texans AT?)
When there's a party or a church fellowship or dining out or anything food-related with a lot of people, 99% of the time BBQ is being served. What is the barbecue brisket, pork, chicken, etc. served with? Lots of low calorie foods like potato salad and sweet baked beans.
So when I came across this food blog post about cutting calories at a barbecue, I'm like: “Somebody's got a sense of humor.”
However, jokes aside, the guilt-free healthy eating tips make good sense. So a healthy barbecue feast is not impossible after all. Who knew??
Who says barbeques are bad news for calorie counters? If you know how to navigate your options, you can eat well at any backyard barbeque.

You can diet the other six days of the week to make up for the BBQ!

That's great advice! The buns and high carb macaroni and potato salads are what piles most of the bad calories on. I'll have to investigate some of those links.

It is good advice. Since my hubby's diet is more restricted than mine, it's good to know.

There are good tips there, and if you skip most of the sauces and condiments and look for smaller bread portions it goes a long way to save. I would disagree with the comment to skip the mayo and eat ketchup and mustard. Mustard, yes, ketchup and barbecue sauce are full of sugar and carbs. Salsa is wonderful, though, and there are some kickin bean salads that do not have a lot of fat, sugar or calories, but plenty of flavor.

As the officially self-designated barbecue sauce connoisseur … there's really no point having a BBQ if you're not going to enjoy the sauce.
Are you in the Kansas BBQ camp?
It's been a while but my survey wanted an opinion of the best BBQ. I think the selections were Kansas, Tennessee, Texas, and I can't remember what other states or places. Should have probably included China and Korea.

I try to limit the times I partake of BBQ to holidays or special events and I've actually managed to use “portion control”. It wasn't easy but doable.

@cmoneyspinner Here we don't have many good places for BBQ. This is why we can't have it more often.

@cmoneyspinnerAnother factor I think is that many here consider coke protein to do harm to health.

According to an American TV chef, he said the Chinese invented barbecue. But what you say about not eating it much rings true, because when we go to Chinese restaurants here in America, I don't recall seeing a lot on the menu regarding barbecue dishes.
