Some Food Facts

Did you know that when 7-Up was first invented, it contained a small amount of Lithium, a drug that is used to treat bipolar disorder? Who knew? How many McDonald’s restaurants do you think there are in the USA? I don’t really know, but I did hear that if you are in the USA, you are never more than 145 miles from a McDonald’s restaurant. I was thinking that you would have to be somewhere in the tundra of Alaska, or the Mohave Desert, or the mountains somewhere. I remember a few years ago, when I had earned a FREE cruise for my sales, I asked my daughter if she wanted to go with us and she said “No, I would never be able to stand being that far away from a Taco Bell.” At the time, it was her favorite choice of fast food. The funny thing was and I definitely took a photo, when my husband and I got off the ship at the first Port of Call, there was a Taco Bell right there near the dock. Fast food restaurants are everywhere. I hate to think about how many there are. However, I did hear that in the USA, there are more Chinese restaurants than all the fast food restaurant put together. I know there are a LOT of Chinese restaurants but that doesn’t seem possible. What do you think?

The thing with Chinese food restaurants is that they are not genuine Chinese food. The fast food version is not like the real thing. I don't know this personally because I've never had REAL Chinese food. But it's just like chicken nuggets not being made out of real chicken. I don't generally eat at fast food restaurants because of my digestive issues. I eat at McDonald's once a week but have a Supreme wrap. I don't have fries. I don't have pop. I might go to Subway or Pita Pit once in awhile but they consist of healthy veggie sandwiches. Taco Bell would rip my insides apart. LOL!

@IreneVincent But regular restaurants have a downfall too. They serve way too much on your plate, and they are expensive. And so is shopping for healthy food. So expensive.

Fast food, in my humble opinion, is the DOWNFALL of healthy living in the USA. And these fast food restaurants are in other countries also. I don't eat at Fast Food Restaurants at all, except occasionally, I have a breakfast sandwich if I'm on the run and maybe a cup of coffee.

Even in my country we have fast food nearly on each corner. While fast food may be good for the mouth it can be so bad for health

@IreneVincent No i haven't really posted that much about my country. Well it is an island situated in the indian ocean near to south africa. The sandy beaches, local foods, hotels often attracts lots of tourists. It is a multi racial and democratic and peaceful country too.

There used to be a Taco Bell in the nearby town, but that has gone along with Dunkin'. Now we have Krispy creme, or some similar spelling!

Yes I love Krispy Kreme. They began in Winston-Salem, so when I visit my son there, he always gets a dozen doughnuts for me. I only go there twice a year, so I splurge a little.

@Ronrybs Yes, I liked the glazed ones with no filling. They are loaded with sugar so I don't indulge very often.

Those are interesting facts! I'm actually enjoying a diet 7Up right now. lol. That Chinese restaurant thing doesn't seem right - of course this is just in my area - but I can think of 9 Chinese restaurants in the area, however I can easily think of 19 fast foods - I'm sure I'm missing some...

I know. It didn't seem right to me either, but who knows how many there really are nationwide.

When I was trying to decide on the type of artwork I wanted over the sofa in my new living room, my 8 year old grandson suggested a picture of the Colonel (KFC).

There are actually more Subways than McDonald's. I don't think the Golden Arches have reached the Antarctic yet.

There are a lot of Subway Restaurants. I have eaten Subway sandwiches maybe a few times a year. Not very often though. I think fast food restaurants are popular because you can "drive through." Some parents feed their children in the car on a regular basis. No dishes to wash. No cooking. Hey! It's convenient and fast.

I see here in town that we have restaurants in close proximity to other ones. So, when you told your daughter that she could have come anyways because there was a Taco Bell what did she say?
