I got a virus!

I'm so upset, I got a virus on my computer today. It is a launchpad dot org virus, that infects browsers. Somehow it got all my browsers, and changed the homepage to their page. I can still visit other sites, but I'm afraid to, because they can probably steal all my passwords and stuff. I spend hours following directions online for getting rid of it, and nothing worked. On top of that, I can't get hold of my computer guy. This is really terrible; I have a lot of projects I was working on, and I'm not even sure if I should make a backup of my photos and files, for fear of backing up the virus onto my backup drive! (I do have almost everything backed up, but there were a few things I worked on over the last few days, that I didn't back up yet). I wish I could get hold of the computer guy to tell me what to do!

Do you have a backup? The easiest way sometimes it is to copy back the system.

I have a backup, but it takes such a long time to restore everything that I prefer not doing that if I can avoid it. Actually, it is fine today. I used Malwarebytes, and then did a system restore to an earlier state, and I think the virus is gone.

@connierebel I also use Malwarebytes it usually fixes the problems. I am glad your system works now.

Wow. That is awful and sorry to hear it. Wish I could offer you some advice but I have no experience with that!!

I don't either, but it's awfully scary! Plus I had a lot of stuff planned for this weekend, and several half-finished Photoshop projects that I hope I don't lose.

This is always terrible. Hoping you get it fixed quickly.

So far I still can't get hold of my computer guy, so I don't think it's going to get fixed quickly.

Oh no! How awful. I'm so paranoid about such things. I tend to check everything at least every couple of days. I wish you the very best in getting everything resolved, hon.
