How far is too far

I have just been curious about a friend of mine who is very close with a married neighbor of hers. They at time end up spending time even into the late nights. The married man his family lives in another town. She says there is nothing much going on between each other, they just share sibling like love. Is there anything like that? Is this not a recipe to disaster? Maybe I am the one who is old school.
