As I look around my new space...

I see my few most beloved possessions and I relax. My late mother's writing notebooks. My college diploma. Mementos of the Literacy Council. The autographed by Novak Djokovic hat from Roland Garros several years ago. A wee sign that says, "FOLLOW YOUR HEART." Shopping bags from Weaver Street Market and the Hillsborough Farmers Market that remind me of North Carolina. The Joe Van Gogh rainbow coffee cup button my best friend surprised me with on one of our days out. Of course, none of these items mean a thing without the stories and people behind them. I cherish everything and understand that in the end, it's all ephemeral. It's nice to not have things boxed up and stowed away. It's even nicer to have my own space, the peace to write, and to at last be somewhere I'm wanted. That last has been too long coming.

I LOVE tennis. I became obsessed back in the days of Bjorn Borg. It's one of the few sports I actually played as a kid.

@silvermist Djokovic! The Williams sisters. Pretty much anyone. There are some impressive newer players on the scene. Years ago when I first lived here in Newport, I had a hard time maintaining my composure because I literally bumped into John McEnroe in a hotel lobby.

I am glad that you are feeling secure and at home in your new surroundings. Truly, all things are ephemeral.

Those possessions surely hold the greatest memories. You were right about not boxing them away. Seeing the possessions from time to time will just remind you of the good memories and as you say cherish them. Things maybe ephemeral but memories last forever
