Last nite was almost like a nite I experienced several year ago. Several years ago my husband was stationed in Iraq and I was home tending to our children. It was late at night and I was at my computer desk studying as I was going to school at the time.
The dog we had at the time was a beautiful bassett hound we called pugsly. Two of the kids we're in their beds sleeping and the baby which is now my middle daughter was sleeping in her playpin so I could keep an eye on her. We actually had two dogs then at time but it was the ever loyal pugsly that alerted me to the almost would be robber.
Pugsly started going off like crazy and our other dog Bishop followed suit so I got up and looked out the window and saw a guy run across my neighbors yard it looked like he had a gun so I called the police and reported what I saw they could hear my dogs in the background. They caught two people that was breaking into houses and the police said that ours would've next.
Well last night I was working at my kitchen table filling some orders and Mazey started going off like crazy. I looked out and didnt see anything so I let it go. She went off about 10 minutes and I could the neighbors dogs too. I checked again and still nothing so I turned the porch light and kept it on and made sure the doors was locked. Well this morning I was talking to my neighbor who works at the jail and I guess some guy was picked up by the police for trying to break into some cars in the neighborhood. It was allmost like dejavu. Dogs are the best.

Yikes that had to be scary each time you found out that likely would have been the next victim. Here there are no cops past a certain time so if we need help in an emergency we have to call the state police and wait a half hour to get here. It is very scary to me. I do think a dog can be great to feel a little more safe at night.

Yeah especially with my husband gone for work so much I've always felt safer with a dog around. For the most part this is a safe area I think like nite was isolated incident.

Fortunatly we donĀ“t have too many of those problems in our neighborhood. And yes, dogs can smell unknown people with bad intentions.

I'd be moving with such large crime rates.

The incident that happened was actually the first we no longer lived were the robberies took place. despite last night I do feel pretty safe herl what helps is the people looking out for each other. With all the dogs in the neighborhood they wont get by with much.
