Got Smelly Shoes?

Don't let the title turn you away. If you have active kids or even if you yourself are really active, you've had to deal with this smelly situation. Well, I have found a cheap way to rid the smell when you do laundry. Wash your tennis shoes in white vinegar. You can go to the Dollar Tree and get a bottle for a dollar and it has several other cleaning uses around the home. Simply put your smelly shoes and 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the washer with your laundry detergent let the washer fill up with water. Soak your shoes for about half an hour or so then wash as usual and when they come out they will no longer be smelly!

@Happy2BeMe Thanks Laurel. It works,I tried it before I wrote about it. You can do this with anything that can be put in the washer that has a strong odor.

You can also put clay cat litter in the sneakers. It absorbs the odor too.

@melissa1024 I saw that too. I have also used baking soda too. Just sprinkle it in and tap it out the next day.

@melissa1024 I use vinegar in the laundry to keep smells away and also helps eliminate stains. Many of my clients use it to clean with too.

@infatuatedbby When cleaning the home with it you can smell the white vinegar but when using it in your laundry to rid of strong odors in addition to laundry soap and fabric softner you can't even tell it was used.

Good suggestion. Some times when all the students take their gym shoes off, it is pretty smelly in the classroom.

@paigea Thank you! Oh goodness, I feel for you, I say it would be very smelly. This trick does work. I've tried it my self on my families shoes and other various items.

@paigea Sounds like a winner to me. A friend told me about it. I tried it. It worked so I figured I'd pass it along to help others.

Kids who are active always have it. Like my nephew, whenever he's out to play I always make sure he washes his feet with warm water after.

@JustBhem Yes, when my daughter comes in from playing I always make sure she gets a warm bath. And by laundry day, WHEW! her shoes! they most definately need a washing to smell better!
