The year and the "Rain Year."

The year started in January (rainy day, as I recall), but the "Rain Year" starts in October. I am not sure why, but that is what the National Weather Service says. Anyway you look at it, Oregon has a rainy year going.
Since that Rain year started in October, we have had 37.65 inches of rain, snow, etc. Since January 1, we have seen 20 of those inches, nearly 5 this month.
The funny thing is that for the rain year, we are only 2 inches ahead of normal. Since we suffered a few years of extreme drought, all this wet stuff is a good thing.
This is the way Oregon was when I moved here in 1969. I got used to it. It looks like I had better get used to it again. This is the most we have seen since 2008.
It's almost time for April showers too!

I know the water tables are down around here but I do not wish for to much rain, It will flood here. I think the reason for the October thing is that is when the rainy season would start around here and go through the winter, before the heat so that it can be measured before it has time to evaporate.

That could well be. I did not look up the origin of the rain year.

And then the sun comes out for a bit and it is great! There have been many double rainbows too.

We get less than half of that here. I love the rain unless it lasts for days on then and that is seldom. I like the smell after a rain and the occasional rainbow. We had a double out over the parking lot here one year.

@JamesHxstatic ......It's been more than normal here. I enjoy the rhythm of the rain coming down. Too much of anything can be bothersome.

Spokane had something like 60 of snow this last winter. The average snowfall is 55 inches. The record for rainfall in March is around 4.5 inches and we have received a little over 3.5 inches. Since there is rain in the forecast for all week we may tie or break that record.

@JamesHxstatic - We do need it, though. It's only March and we're already under a burn/outdoor smoking ban.

I ran across that when I was looking up totals. I had heard of it, but did not know how it worked.

Oregon is one of the most beautiful states I've ever visited. Portland is my bucket list to live for a while.

Portland is a great city. I love going there and it is only 100 miles north. My daughter lives and works there.
