Coconuts are plucked at different stages. Some tender coconuts have just water and the flesh or meat has not yet developed. Then there are those that have a thick layer of the flesh where the water content will be less but the water will be very sweet. Most go for a tender coconut where there is a thin layer of the flesh and good amount of water though not very sweet. Once the vendor knows your requirement he will pick the right coconut for you.and strip out the required skin so that you can drink the water using a straw. He will also scoop out the flesh after you have finished drinking the water and provide you with a spoon made from the skin of the coconut. The price of tender coconuts is increasing day by day. What is the price where you live and do you have it regularly. I make ice cream with tender coconut. It tastes delicious.

I normally take the ones that have just enough flesh and water. I take about 3, scoop out the flesh and make a paste out of it. Mix milk powder (after making a paste) , coconut water, butter and enough sugar. Add the coconut paste and put it in a mixie. Whip it thoroughly and keep it in the firdge for a day. Bring it out thaw it and once again put it in the mixie. Repeat this process thrice.

@allknowing , it is very difficult to buy fresh coconut where I am, it is actually a luxury. So I don't get to enjoy coconut as much as I would like. I can just imagine how delicious your coconut ice cream must be, yummy!!!

I don't often have a chance to have the fresh coconut water here because the coconuts are not so common in the market. I bought it once and I found it was difficult for me to finish it at home.

Wow I hope I can taste that. But vendors really gives the coconut that we wish to buy just by tapping their big Knife to the Coconut shells. Hehehe

They are really experts. Back home the coconut climbers are good at that.

The price of coconut in Hyderabad is Rs.15 if it is a small one and if it is bigger one the price will be Rs.20/- There is a demand for Coconuts of Kerala which will be light brownish yellow in color. They each cost Rs.30/-. They are likely to increase even more at some places.

This is the right time to drink coconut water. Do you have it regularly?

I always wonder, how they exactly know which one will have what! Like, we friends used to have coconut water regularly. We all had different requirement - someone 'only water', someone 'little flesh and sweet water', someone more flesh.. And the seller used to give us exactly what we wanted..
