Have you ever been on a quest? One where you're searching and searching for something and you're not 100% certain what it is specifically that you're seeking but you know you'll never be satisfied until you've found it?
Well, if not, I don't know if you're blessed or cursed. You may be cursed because you've never had the fire in your soul urging you forward to achieve whatever end that will fulfill your need and that fire? Oh child, it haunts you. It seduces you. It wraps you up like a mummy and won't unbind until you find what you're looking for. And that's its blessing too, of course. The passion that a quest instills is truly intoxicating.
Quests don't have to be cosmically important to the Universe. They don't have to matter but anyone but you. In fact, I believe they're better if you're the only person to whom a quest matters. There is danger in that, however, children. It's a very fine line between a quest and an obsession.
An obsession, while energizing at first, inevitably becomes enervating. An obsession will eat away at your soul, your heart, your mind. You can be active when it comes to a quest. An obsession, however? It will eat you alive. You think about it instantly upon waking and it's with you throughout your day. No matter what you're doing, it niggles at you. You likely dream about it too since it's assuredly the last thing you think about before sleep.
A true quest is energizing. It's a mystery that you must solve. You search for clues and means and then work until you attain your prize. And hon, it doesn't have to be a holy grail.
It's easier to go on a quest if you have that specific goal in mind, particularly if it's the acquisition of a something. That something can be an object, a bit of information, or even inspiration if you're a writer or musician or artist or craftsperson or chef or whatever it is that you do that feeds your soul and hopefully your belly.

The internet makes it so much easier to find background information, locate a lyric or track down an item for sale that many of today's potential quests take little time. I sometimes miss the days when it was a matter of browsing through my reference books, visiting the library or scouring the record or secondhand book shops.

I just wish quests were sometimes give to us, with easy rewards, like a video game. I could use a reward right now to get some stuff done lol
