Fingerpainting, cut different vegetables in half to use as stampers, glue and cotton balls, anything with glitter.

You can make your own "non-toxic" glitter by mixing salt and food coloring. Just stir it together and spread it out on newspaper to dry. It probably wouldn't be great for them to eat a bunch of it but it wouldn't kill them to taste it.

You could use non toxic poster paint for kids and some shaped sponges, but if you want it less messy.... you could always buy lots of paper and tissue paper and big creative bits that the kids can't fit in their mouths along with some cheap prit stick so they glue it down themselves with the least mess as possible. Kids always like wooden spoons too, so you could get them to draw on wooden spoons and decorate them.

try making footprint t-shirts where you paint the kids feet with fabric paint and press them onto a t-shirt with a different color. :)

hi there, you can probably try art outdoors? this could be done by filling a pan with sand/salt and bringing it outdoors. Then, encourage your child to draw pictures on it and erase them when he gets tired of the picture. Simple as that! (:

How about making "snakes" out of paper plates. You'd start with a paper plate, and using siscors, cuting the plate in a "spiral" motion all the way down to the center of the plate. This will make a sort of "slinky" shape for the paper. Then let the kids decorate with crayons, paint, any arts and crafts decorations really. This was one thing I made my kids do when I was a camp counselor.

You can cut out different shapes of paprer or out of magazines and they can make collages. Instead of liquid glue give them a glue stick to use.

Just let them play with non-toxic art supplies under your supervision.

There are many age appropriate activities for toddlers not only in the art department (creativity), but in other categories such as large muscle activities, games to promote social skills, and tons of other stuff. I am sure that if you go to a website dealing with early childhood education there will be a link to all kinds of 'good' stuff. Happy searching...

I have to say..I kept art supplies, markers and crayons out of my house for a few years because i got soo tired of finding markers or crayons in the older boys room and their little brothers had drawn on walls and furniture. I started buying them again when Crayola came out the the special paper, coloring books, crayons, markers and paints that will only work with the special paper. I let my 16 month old and 4 yr old do art time at the kitchen table and fingerpaint and color to their hearts content. My 16 month old doesnt know much about what he's doing, he just copies his big brother!! I have noticed my younger kids also like modeling clay and sculpting clay...you can bake the sculpting clay when they have made their art and you can keep it around for them to look at as they grow!

Have you tried fingerpainting? My toddler loves to do this. It's messy but they have such fun.

I agree with the fingerpainting idea! Kids love that stuff. They can get their hands dirty and paint on paper and they have fun with it. Another good idea might be play-doh but you'd have to watch them pretty closely since they're so little!
