Begging for Money in a Restaurant

Yesterday, while standing in line to pick up our food - I smelt a foul odor. I didn't know what it was but turned out there was a lady who was begging for money. It may be from her. She kept asking everyone for money while they were eating. Many were disturbed and disappointed, shockingly the manager didn't do anything.
I don't think that is the right environment to ask people for money. She could ask people before or after people left the restaurant, but going inside with her bags and asking was kind of rude especially when people were eating.

@chrissbergstrom She didn't ask me. No one was rude or anything but it wasn't the right environment to beg for money. :)

Around here they are not allowed to panhandle in the stores or directly in front of businesses. The manager should not have allowed her to disturb his customers.

If I was the manager, I would think of the customers but it could be the manager was male, and he did not want to be considered bad to tell her to get out @Happy2BeMe

That take nerve. We had a lady here that pushed a grocery basket around downtown. You could see her ever day. I was talking to someone about it one day and the person told me that this woman was actually well off. She lived in a nice home and drove a car. You just never know about people.

They are not allowed to enter resto or fastfood premise here. The guards will hold them up the door. The manager is irresponsible.

@teamfreak16 Did not do anything. Probably did not want to be recorded throwing out a beggar then having a bad reputation. Even though its just one side of the story

They would lose customers if they keep it that way. Here its not allowed too. But if there's an instances that they get inside, they were ushered out quietly by the staff. Before they give a little food so they go out with out a fuss but they get abusive I think because after a few months they stopped the "Good Samaritan" because they keep on coming back all the time.

@infatuatedbby They ask money here for food mainly. They are begging for coins because they haven't have breakfast yet or lunch. Its always the same. There were few times they ask money for medicines and flashed us of their prescription.

I don't know if it is a gender issue but the manager was male, and maybe he thought it was wrong to tell the woman to leave so he did not and let it be.

Yes I can relate with that. I think the manager wasn't aware what was happening if he did noticed that he should have shooed away the beggar. When I got to visit NY couple of months ago, I saw one beggar instead of begging from the customer he asked the owner of pizza to give him some. The owner instead of shooing him asked him to call out for customers instead to come to his resto and after getting a couple or so customers the owner gave him a slice to munch on. The beggar happily left the resto eating. That is I guess one way of treating beggars let them work for the food they want.

@infatuatedbby It’s a win-win situation for the beggar and the restaurant since they got customers to come in so it’s just right for them to repay him for his effort.

That is one way of shooing beggars. It depends.. if they beg for food OR for money. For money, they can ask the restaurant owner, but for $$ (not to buy food) is a different story.

We noticed that panhandlers are coming into public places now too. The other week we went to Rubios and ate inside. This young college age girl came in asking for money. She was actually well groomed and dressed . . . and she was holding a little cardboard sign. Hubby and I were thinking how rather inappropriate that was - to come into a restaurant to bother the patrons.

I love Rubio's! Going to go this week.
But yes, it is strange and very new to me too! It was shocking. I don't know if the manager was afraid to tell her to exit (because the manager was a male) but he let it be and after everyone rejected, she walked out.
It was very inappropriate situation especially when everyone is eating.
There are a lot of well dressed young woman and their kids standing around like Trader Joe's especially asking for money.

@infatuatedbby Are you going to go for Taco Tuesday (the fish taco deals)?
I watched to see if any of the employees would do anything, but they didn't. She asked everyone and I didn't see anyone give her anything. She really didn't seem "needy".
I really don't understand it when there are kids around when they are panhandling. Most of the time I see them during school hours . . . they should be in school and I know they ARE able to attend schools!!! Yes,Trader Joes seems to have folks that hang around in their parking lots like that.

Oh no, I don't like Taco Tuesday. :) I either get the steak quesadilla with steak on the side, no sour cream sub guacamole and no salsa fresca. I am complicated just a bit. Or sometimes I get the Baja Steak Guacamole Burrito (?)
My fiancé likes the Salmon Burrito or Shrimp Burrito. And seasonal he gets the Lobster Burrito.
The 5th of April, all burritos are $5 - I don't know how crowded that will be. I got an email from them, you can find the coupon online. Also its my fiancés birthday month so they sent us a free coupon meal to Rubios
Yes, I know what you mean... and to me if they are needy and have a child wouldn't the government help them out? They have public schools and assistance so it doesn't really make sense to me.

Beggars do not have manners, otherwise they wouldn't beg.. they'd go to the shelter and get help there.
There is a beggar on a street corner near where I work. He's there every day. Today as I drove by someone screamed something nasty at him from their car.. I could hear it all the way on the other side of the road. That made me feel bad for the beggar. I don't agree with what he's doing, but I don't feel like he deserves that sort of treatment.

That is rude someone screamed. If they aren't bothering someone, yeah I don't see what there is to yell about. Unless the man did something to the other person who screamed.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was eating at a pretty nice restaurant located in the downtown area of our city. They have a nice little outdoor cafe garden, and my girlfriend and I were outside eating, and this homeless man kept begging us for money. He was relentless and would not go away. I complained to our waiter, who did nothing. I then went and complained to the manager, who again did nothing. So we just got up and left. Didn't pay for our food or nothing. They didn't even try to stop us. Pretty sad way to run a restaurant.

I was just a customer picking up to go. Had I been a customer eating, I would have been annoyed. Just like you, I would have mentioned something to the waiter and then manager. They do not want to do anything because now a days people record for everything without even knowing half the side of the story. Then, it makes a bad image on the owner, restaurant, etc. People blast these types of things on the internet, social media, news, etc. Its just one less hassle. Yeah, there are some things that should be recorded but again always two sides of the story!

@infatuatedbby We're living in a crazy messed up world! If people would just respect each other and treat each other kindly, we could avoid many situations like this. We often forget that people are fallible human beings, all of us are going to make mistakes or have bad days every now and then. That's why it's so important to try to empathize with people.
