Belgian Waffle Fail.... False advertisement, not NON-STICK

United States
April 6, 2017 2:14pm CST
Per the box it states this waffle maker has a "non-stick surface bakes up to 4 beautiful, evenly cooked waffles that never stick - wipes clean easily" ... well it didn't say anything about needing oil? I have non-stick pans that never needed oil, or butter and they're truly non-stick. Well here's my failed waffle attempt! I tried cleaning it and it's a mess. Half way of cleaning, my fiancé said just return it since it's not worth keeping or wasting anymore time to clean. I chat with the representative and they said to bring it back as is and get a replacement or return since it is false advertisement. An actual useful representative today. Do you have a waffle maker? Do you use oil?On our griddle for pancakes - we don't have to use oil and it is truly non-stick.

Thats the point! It read non stick all over the box.. on the front, side, back so I figured it didn't need any oil or spray. I have not returned it yet but I will today or whenever we're near the mall. Most likely today since we're going to the market. Hopefully they won't give me any troubles but I have the chat history with the representative and he said just show them that if I want to save time since it is approved =)

We've always put spray oil on our waffle makers. I don't remember our first attempts . . . but all of our waffle were non-stick too . . . I just never believe non-stick is totally non-stick. We usually put some kind of oil in our batter too.

@infatuatedbby We have one of those ceramic plate non-stick waffle makers . . . but I have never tested it out without oil. Habit I guess!

I do not have a waffle maker... SO you are returning it at the physical location?

Well honestly, was going to toss it out! But that'd be a waste of money/points. Then the box said there is a 2 year warranty and if the product fails or workmanship anything bring it back with proof of purchase. Given that I just got this yesterday......... I'll get some money back to my account. And since I am going to go to the store near the mall later. We may stop by or a different day.

@infatuatedbby I just hope you won't meet resistance at the physical store. When you called the rep, it was the number for the actual product, yes?

I don't know why they label anything as non stick as really it's the opposite!. I don't have a waffle maker and don't eat a lot of them.

I don't often eat waffles, but when I do at cafe's they're usually pricey so i figured I'd learn to make them, but it's a fail!

I would neer buy that style ever again - I had the same issues. Now I have one that stands up- you close the two parts together and there is an opening you pour the batter into - when they are done they come out so easy. I've used it about 10 times so far and not one sticking situation. I don't have to spry the waffle maker or add oil to the mix.

Oh wow! That is so cool. I don't know if I want to try to make waffles anymore. I'll see if they have another style. I did 1 tbsp of oil to the batter mix just not directly in the waffle maker. Had I not put oil in the batter (the batter instructions said so) I bet it'd stick even more!

@AbbyGreenhill This is abnormal. No idea how people rated it so well without anyone saying it sticks! Because it sure enough does!

I don't have a waffle maker but I think it should be non-stick. I have a sandwhich maker and it is smiliar with this. It is non-stick and it works well. You know it is hard to imagine I need to put the oil at the surface of the sandwich maker and then make the sandwiches. I think your waffle maker doesn't work well and I hope you can refund it and change another better one.

Yes I have one of these non-stick waffle makers and yes they need to be greased to function properly. We have a different brand but same results if we didn't use oil or butter.

Oh my! They should put a note, need oil or butter, some sort of grease to really clean easily.

Does it stick like how it stuck on your first attempt? I did have oil in the batter too, if I had not I would imagine it'd stick even worse.

@infatuatedbby Oil in the batter does not prevent the batter to stick, sometimes it is enough to oil the waffle maker only the first time. No, mine did not stick as much as yours did.

I've never made waffles. Mom used to have a waffle maker and I don't remember how she got her waffles out. They were pretty perfect, though. I just make French toast and pancakes when I want them.

@infatuatedbby I have a great non-stick pan that I purchased at the grocery store. I make my pancakes and French toast in that and never have problems. I don't have to use oil or butter or anything, and that makes me very happy!

I don't have a waffle maker. I tried a few years ago and it made such a mess I never tried again. It's good they are taing it back. They certainly can't expect you to know how they want you to use it if they don't tell you.

Out of 8 responses.. 7 never had one. And, 1 who did, had this problem too. She uses a different kind of waffle maker. One that stands up and you pour the batter in (no oil or spray needed) I may have to check out other kinds later today if not I might give up on waffle makers
