Horses on Parade

United States
April 9, 2017 3:47pm CST
I don't remember when or why it started. I want to say it began it the 80's or early 90's. I believe it was once a fundraiser, and the horses were auctioned to raise money for something. However it started, to this day you'll see these random painted horses at various spots around town. I promised @judyev that I'd take a picture of one if I came across one. Today we brought our boys to the Museum of Science and Technology. Out front was this horse statue, and as promised I got a picture. Does your town have any neat statues?

Thanks for posting this - and for the mention. It's a lovely statue. Is each one different? I'm presuming they are. With the cow statues in WA which were painted and auctioned, many were the same shape but with totally different paintings.

Yes they're each painted differently, but they're mostly all the same style.

@katsmeow1213 It's a nice style anyway but the one outside the doctor's office is really nice too.

@Happy2BeMe Do you know the purpose of the statues? We have an old train station and there are statues of people there, waiting for a train. But they're not colorful statues, just vague, white statues.

I like the decorated horses. I wish we had them where I live but alas, we have statues of 1950's trucks all over town. They are small-ish, each is painted and decorated quite differently and they are cute as can be. I saw painted cow statues in a nearby town and they were okay too. But I really wish someone liked horses enough to have the painted horses in town!

The trucks sound pretty interesting! There aren't many of these horses around anymore. There used to be tons when I was a kid.

Saratoga is full of painted horses and Bennington in Vermont is full of painted deer. This summer I will get some photos ..... Love the sculpture.

That is lovely. I know two different people who live in your town, both from our condo in Florida. I'll quiz them when I see them next. Our town is too tiny for statues. We have a memorial or two on the town green.

Beautiful picture. I think Green Bay is starting to do statues as part of their beautification project in the downtown area. I haven't been thrilled with what they came up with yet.
