It’s Holy Week this week, for us Catholics here in the Philippines. Thus, tomorrow , Holy Thursday and the next day Black Friday , holidays. We will have a long weekend since the next two days is Saturday and Sunday . I have done the general cleaning of our bedroom last Sunday. I changed the curtains, bedsheets and wiped every nook and place and cleaned our bedroom thoroughly. I did it for 4 hours and was so tired ! So, this week , I have the long weekend to enjoy ! I guess, this feeling is natural for those who have full -time jobs on weekdays like me - excited when there is a holiday or long weekend like this . Good afternoon, from the province of Albay where Mayon Volcano is. Unfortunately , she is hidden yesterday by clouds , but I was able to take a picture of our downtown Legazpi city for everyone here to see.

Long weekends is not favorable for us biz people because that means banks would be close for a long time and we cannot get payments or advanced payments, ATMS are empty or off line so we better conserve our cash or withdraw early if we plan to go on vacation.

It is better to withdraw the money in advance, when we are aware that there is an extended weekend.

@louievill Precisely. When it is a long weekend, one should be prepared if ever he is going somewhere. Better withdraw money two days before the last banking days, because for sure banks will be filled with people on the last day as it is also again on the first day of the banking week.

@dpk262006 Yes. It should be that way. Yesterday , there were already long lines of people withdrawing from ATMs . So, I went to the bank itself where it has two ATMs outside. I was surprised when I saw that each ATM only have one each. ha ha ha Lucky me. Perhaps they don't want to encounter the heat outside, since at the mall it is airconditioned. What is good is I was able to take a picture of downtown Legazpi City which I posted today, while I stand for a bit to wait for my turn on the ATM.

We call it "Good Friday", I think that Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Friday is not a holiday here, but Monday is a holiday.

@SIMPLYD Yes, the Catholic countries celebrate the Monday after Easter, it is called "Bright Monday" or "Renewal Monday". It is an official holiday in most countries of the world, not in the United States.

It is good to hear that you have completed your cleanliness drive last week and now you are all set to enjoy the long weekend. What are you doing to do during your long weekend?

Just be at home , read the bible and do some praying. On Friday, I shall go to my parents house and be there until Saturday. I have to be back home on Saturday afternoon. Easter Sunday will mean going to the Easter Sunday mass ,then we will attend a thanksgiving lunch by a cousin-in-law. But most people go to the beach on EAster Sunday to have fun by the sea.

@SIMPLYD So you have detailed plans to spend your weekend and you are going to enjoy your Easter Sunday. All the best. What makes people go to beach on Easter Sunday, I think on every Sunday beaches over there would be crowded. Is not it?

@dpk262006 Precisely. All beaches are really filled with people on EAster Sunday. It's the most common way of celebrating Easter and it is also the easiest way for families to bond. My borther-in-law asked me if we can all go to the beach also on Easter Sunday. I told him, we have already committed to going to the Thanksgiving lunch party of their cousin. I told him to better schedule it next week's Sunday so I can reserve a cottage for us at my clan's beach.

@changjiangzhibin89 No, one of my sisters lives in Manila. But all of us are just here in Albay, so we will be gathered as we always do whenever I go there to visit. We will have our reunion , my sister and family plus cousins from Manila might be coming for my father's joint birthday party celebration on May. Yes, these are legal holidays.

Good Friday is one of only two days in the year when all shops are shut. Easter Monday is a holiday here too so we have a four-day break.

Yes, it's actually called Good Friday too here. I just misnamed it. he he he Here too, the shops are shot for the Catholic owners. But not for the malls whose owners are not Catholics. Though Monday after Easter isn't a holiday anymore here.

@SIMPLYD It's interesting how countries differ. Many Australians aren't religious at all but they wouldn't want to work if there was a holiday being offered.

The lenten season has lost much of the religious piety it had when I was a kid. Then it was a time of prayers and contemplation. Today, there are more people in malls rather than in church. But enjoy your long weekend.

That is very true. Most malls are open on Good Friday, so those young generations especially would flock to the mall. Gone are those days when malls are closed and most people are in church. I miss those days. Although, it is still observed by some people here but not much anymore.

it looks like there several malls that don't close during holy week based on this article. times have really changed.
Most shopping malls in the country have adjusted their operating hours in observance of the Holy Week, with most establishments closed on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Did you go inside the mall? Didn't you take a picture of it with Mayon on the background? There's a Starbucks at the third floor, where Mayon Volcano is so visible. One day , i will go there with friends and have a picture inside with Mayon on the background , by it's veranda.

@sunrisefan Before I am attending the mass for that. But since it is too hot for me to bear at the church now that I am havin hot flushes triggered by the heat, we just attend mass on Easter Sunday. Here at home, I will be praying the rosary tonight. We are just here at home, with hubby snoring already on his side of the bed. Enjoy the washing of the feet, friend. Who amongst the disciples are you? Judas? Oops sorry, I laughed. We are supposed to mourn today.
