Thought I would give a new show on TNT called Animal Kingdom a shot, the show opens with a teenage kid named Jay who's mother dies of a overdose, his estranged grandmother takes him in, we meet his three uncle's a bunch of money is seen strewn about, the uncle's are not average they offer the kid alcohol immediately upon meeting him. share stories of drug use and give him hundreds of dollars to buy shoes.
Thee show has the feel of Sons of Anarchy and it seems they are slowly trying to recruit the kids into whatever nefarious activities they are involved, waiting till later in the show to really delve into what that is.
Another uncle Shawn Hatosy shows up and has been released from jail. Shawn is a very underrated actor whom I remember from a great film Soldier's Girl I may write a review on that later on as it was a great film.
Without giving to much away I do recommend giving the show a chance, it definitely seems a bit slow but a talented cast, with Ellen Burstyn in a starring role. It's nice to find a brand new show to watch and this one hasn't gotten the promotion it should.
Look forward to future episodes I hope that it develops Into a good show.

It's Ellen Barkin not Burstyn playing Smurf. Season 2 is supposed to start May 30. Good show based on an Australian movie. Hatosy as Pope is scary as he is like a psycho but in a way sympathetic as we learn more about him. Glad you like it.

Call me naïve - I had assumed at first that it was a show about animals
