Have you ever done something totally selfish on MyLot? I did this morning.

I got a comment on an older post this morning. It was from last April, when the payout rate was $1, and Alex et. al were trying to decide what the long-term payout rate would be. Do you remember those days? Anyway, I realized that there were about 20 comments on that post that I'd never responded to. Just for the heck of it, I started responding to those comments. But after two or three, I realized that some of the commenters had only 500 or so total "activities" on the site. I figured that they had "blown the site off" when the payout rate went up to $5, so I stopped responding to commenters that didn't have at least 2,000 total activities. I figured they were "gone like a train" and wouldn't comment back. Not worth my time. Do you sometimes engage in brutally selfish acts (the word Machiavellian went through my head) like that here? Thinking about it, many things we all do can be seen as selfish, from writing catchy titles, to joining conversations on "hot " posts, to...well, I dare not say it. By the way, are you happy with the $5 payout rate? I think it was the perfect compromise. Mike (a year ago) suggested having an occasional "$1.00 month," and I actually think that might be a good idea to bring new writers on board, but would it only attract those who are mostly interested in the "money"?

$5 is not too bad but $1, people just come & go.

I think it brought people here who were looking for a quick buck. But maybe it did bring some new writers "on board." I'm not sure.

@infatuatedbby Maybe they'll do the $1 thing again for a month. I'd like to see some new faces. Of course I'm sure there are plenty of people here that I've never met.

I don't recall the payout ever going down to $1. Interesting. I don't respond to just silly or obscure comments on any of my posts. Some are newbies or people that won't be here long. If I continue to see them then I might respond more to them.

I sometimes respond to lame comments with questions. That's how I see if they're sincere.

I recall it $1 on a trial basis but it wasn't long.

@TheHorse I do not think you were a snob but as they charity begine at home. If you just comment and that user benefits nothing why waste your time?

@allknowing That's really what I was thinking. Comments by someone who has abandoned the site don't need responses.

I think the $1.00 payout may have brought back a few long time users who had left and their account was languishing with around $1.00. I'm happy with the $5.00 payout. $10. Was okay too, but the. Sometimes it took me two months to reach payout.

@Lupita234 That is true. And sites like Bubblews paid some of their members some of the time.

Have you thought about responding to someones comment may bring back mylotters who stopped interacting here? Once we recieve a comment, an email is sent to the user. Maybe, someone left because he or she didn't find the necessary interaction to earn some money or to find new friends on mylot, but would come back some answers are comming back. Otherwise, if we push payout down to $1, maybe the effort mylotters would do goes down, also the quality of the content.

Honestly, @Meramar, I can't see the quality going much farther down than some of us take it already. But we are still here, too. Nothing in the guidelines says I have to make my conversations intelligent. I just need them to be interesting enough to draw comments from other myLotters here! LOL!

@allen0187 Like you, I'm happy with $5. I see no reason to change it. But if they did the occasional $1 month, it might please newbies and those who don't have the time to interact much.

For me, it wouldn't matter, as I'm pretty active. If they moved it to $20, I'd be just as active, though I wouldn't get paid every month.

If you're fairly active, $5 isn't that hard to reach. I'm as active as I can be working three jobs plus music, and I haven't had any trouble reaching $5 per month.

I don't think I remember the site with the $1, I remember it being $10, well it will probably take me half the year to get to $10. I struggle to get $5, but then I just come to talk first and figure at some point will make some money, I will get nothing in April, because my internet was out for a long time in March. So just wasn't really online until much later , .. I actually answer as much as possible , I answer what catches my eye.... my good eye right now..

I do not know if I would call it selfish. I would say you were making the best use of your time. On the other hand, your comments to them might have woken them up, or someone else might respond to your response.

I did for one, I think. But most I just assumed that if someone had responded to my post a year ago, and had only 500 total activities a year later, that they weren't active today.

The minimum payout does not affect how much we make. Only how often one can redeem. TIme for me to get back to my real job as well. Off to see a client (for the first time!).
