Almost got Broadsided!

Today on my way to work, I stopped at a store to buy something. Pulling out of the parking lot, I almost got broadsided by another car that came flying up in the wrong lane.
It was at a very difficult place to get out of, very close to a light at a busy intersection, and I had to turn left. I expected a very long wait, as a whole long line of traffic was approaching the light, which of course turned red. But a lady, since she had to stop for the light anyway, stopped before she blocked the driveway, holding up the traffic behind her so that I could pull out in front of her and turn left. Of course, I looked both ways, and made sure nobody was turning from the light onto the road. But as I got out across the road, some car, several cars behind the nice lady, decided to pass the line of stopped cars and come down along their left side (it's not a two lane road there!). He was able to slam on his brakes only a couple of inches away from hitting me broadside! He would have gotten the back part of my vehicle, so I don't think I'd be hurt, but my car would have been totaled judging by how fast he was going. Of course, maybe that would have been a blessing, if he had enough insurance to buy me a new car. My vehicle is on it's last legs. I don't even know where he thought he was going, since the light was red anyway!

It is scary out there sometimes the way that some people drive. People re so impatient and always in a hurry. Glad you didn't get hit.

It only takes a second for the whole world to change! No one comes out a winner when there is an auto accident.

Wow, what a scary thing to happen! I can't understand why people are in such a darned hurry. Maybe he was not familiar with the road and thought it was a 2 lane road? Either way, he could use a little dose of patience and some perspective on what is important in life. I'm so glad you are okay!!

No, I think he was just in a hurry. Right up by the light there's a branch for turning left, but it doesn't extend down the whole road! There's no way to mistake the one lane for two lanes.
