Why sharing is caring?

Well each of us tell our kids that sharing is caring and they should definately share their stuff with others.
Then why do we suddenly withdraw from that saying, the moment we come to know, that the other person comes from a certain background?
I dont think its fair.
This question was asked by my daughter today and I am yet to give her a suitable reply.
Find me a befitting reply to this one. Will you?

True but sometimes people forget this and dont want to share their blessings with others. And thats very sad.

I think the concept is different here. In the Internet, language sharing means endorsing.but not accepting.

No sharing here means only sharing. No endorsing of any kind.

I did not understand the relation between sharing and background.

@marguicha actually this happenned with my daughter. She witnessed this happenning in front of her at park. Her friends mom didnt let her share the cake with another kid who came from a rather poor family and was mentally challanged.
And hence the question.

We tell this to children to teach them the good things in life coz that's what we learnt when we were like them but we are not following it. So we cannot teach them anything until we have learnt that in life and have induced it in our behavior. The day we really understand the meaning of these good things and follow them, we can teach our kids I think.
