Several years ago Tom Boddette came up with a therory about this very subject!
His premise is that Sears, Kenmore, Whirlpool etc all have a hidden agreement with the sock manufacturers.
Seems that there once was a washer and dryer that was slated to come onto the market guaranteed NOT to eat socks!
Naturally the 'Big Three' couldn't allow that to occur, it would endanger their contract with the sock manufacturers!
So the bought the patent and hid it in a deep vault never more to be seen.
By the way, have you ever noticed it is the socks WITHOUT holes in them that always looses a mate?

I decided to call myself that because I really am not special. I was assistant admin on an addiction help site for four years and it seemed that everyone thought I was some kind of Wonder Woman or something. And I simply am not. I am just me, no more no less.
I do thank you however for the compliment.

Yeah - the SOCK MONSTER definately visits our house regularly too! We have a huge bag of socks that had their partners chomped by the sock monster ...
We live in hope that he will return the socks to their rightful partners - no luck yet!

I have this monster as well. I finally bought a mesh laundry bag to put my daughters socks in when I put them in the wash. That way, they stay inside the bag, get clean, and come out still in pairs! Thats the only way the monster cannot get to them. I believe the bag is like Kryptonite is to Superman!

Yes, maybe even more than 1. There is an advert here on TV, about socks going missing. I think they all go to a sock beach or something. Either way it's a good advert. I know someone who puts her socks in a nylon stocking to wash them, then they don't go missing.

Yeah he comes to my house too!
For some reason he really like black socks though.
One day I will catch him.
