It Smiles, it Laughs

I bought it February 25th. I remember the day very clearly, I picked it up, declaring "I am getting on this right now, I am not waiting until the end of March again to do them." I took it home and sat it in the center of the table. That is the prime location for things that need my attention. I walk pass, notice it, and know I need to take care of that item. I picked it up every night to make way for the supper items, it would smile at me innocently. After supper I placed it back in the prime location for the next day, it would grin at me. Don't think I did not notice it during the day. It sat there innocent enough in the morning, it was around lunch time when it started to act up. As I walked by it yelled out to me, "Hey Kim, let's get together!" "not right now" I would tell it, "I am busy." It began to get a bit more aggressive as the days passed and still no attention from me "Yo Kim, You and Me, Now!" "No Not right now, maybe later" I would say very matter of factIy. Then the really ornery behavior would begin, "Come on let's get this done" and he would trip me to slow me down. Now, that is just plain rude! Somehow this went on for months, some days it was just an evil laugh "bahahahaha". It started to haunt my dreams "Do your taxes, wahahaha". Now here I am bruised and beat up the day before taxes are due, April 17th. How did I get to this point? Why did I put it off for so long? No matter. It is time to put up or shut up. As I opened the software, I wondered how they had put so much evil in one nicely packaged, pretty colored package. I went into the home office, closed the door, and started the taxes about 9AM. At 7:45 I finished and it was time for the printing. I printing off ours and started on the older boys, then I got an error on my printer, "The ink pad has passed its live expectancy". I have never heard of this, what in the world is an ink pad? So I called hubby, who looked it up, seems we needed to to buy a new printer the manufacturer does not suggest replacing this part, replacing the printer instead. I had a melt down, how in the world was I going to get these taxes post marked by tomorrow if I cannot print anything out. EEEKKKK! All I can say is, sometimes, just sometimes, it pays to be a pack rat. I pulled out a 20 year old printer I had saved simply because I could not stand to throw a working printer away. I printed those tax returns out and popped them into the mail. They are done and will be postmarked by April 18th, Tax day in the USA. There, done for another year. Will I procrastinate again next year, maybe not as much, but yes, I am sure I most likely will. I just hate all the work that goes into taxes, I have done them for 32 years now for our family and I am sure it is not going to get better. Oh sure, We have had many many promises by many, many politicians about post card sized tax returns, but nobody has followed though and I do not think they ever will. I am off to burn the box now, it will give me some satisfaction. Did you get your taxes done on time? Was it frustrating? I hope that you all got your taxes done on time. Have a beautiful day!

Our HRD does the filing of the income taxes withheld from our salaries. So we have no problem.

I wish ours were so easy, it is a complicated process made more difficult by blow hard politicians.

It seems that taxes and filling tax forms are a nightmare for Americans. It takes about one hour to have the job done here.

That is the only area I never procrastinated on. I wanted them done ASAP. I did wait a little longer to get them done this year than usual, but I still got them done early. My son, however, waited until it was almost too late, and then couldn't get his AGI from last year and had to contact the IRS at the last moment - last week to get it taken care of so he could get his taxes done by his birthday - yesterday - tax day.

I love to try to find the humor in life, we can't take it to seriously. I might go a little nuts if I couldn't laugh.

I'm hoping to get to the IRS office for some help. Things in my life keep going wrong and since I don't have a way to get around easily, it didn't happen on time for me. And I'm kicking myself.

I took the kids out for supper. We had not been out in a really long time. We all enjoyed the meal except the waitress tried to seat us apart. I told her, look we came out for a meal together, we want to sit together.

I am not a procrastinator in any way shape or form. Our taxes were done early February. I get all the info together throughout the year and we have someone do them...only because it's cheaper than printing out all those pages!

This seems to be such a big deal for you Americans. I don't have to do taxes anymore, but when I did it would only take about an hour. You must have a different system from ours. Glad you got yours done eventually.

I had hoped I would get a pat on the back for keeping that old printer, that is what we are using right now for all our printing and I print a lot.The negative is that it is not a network printer so anybody that wants to print has to go to one specific computer. Oh well.

@mom210 still, you saved a lot of cash by having that old printer even if it only works on one specific computer, money saved is money saved.

We used to do our own but with two home based businesses, it just made more sense to hire an account. We have saved a lot of money by doing that, because she know all the little ways to save money on our businesses..and what we can count as "business expense in our home.

I used to be like that! Now, I usually get them done about a month before they are due and just relieve a lot of pressure and anxiety. Next year, I hope to do them even earlier. Probably I won't, but it feels good to think that I will.

While yours is over for this year, our end of financial year is fast approaching in 10 days. Then we have until Halloween to file our tax returns. I usually do them online by end of July.

It really took you that long to pull everything together? I think I'd find someone to do them if it took me a day. I already have an accountant since we have a business. I do everything throughout the year, sending in our employee's amounts we deduct from each check and all that paperwork, but the final stuff I let our accountant take care of. He does it while I wait and it takes less than an hour. Usually I get mine done sometime toward the end of March since we need the little we get back to help with bills for the remaining winter months. This year because of my surgery in Feb, I actually got everything done by mid Feb and we had the money in the bank before my surgery. That way I was able to pay the bills before being in the hospital for three days. I doubt I'll be that quick again, but I'm trying not to procrastinate everything for tomorrow, so if I get better through the year maybe I can be early again.

@mom210 I imagine it would change things. I used to do our own, but I don't recall when it was that we got someone to do them instead. It may be when my husband began working for himself, or it may have been when we began hiring employees, although we've had a few since the early nineties, so maybe that was the reason. I'd never be able to figure it all out myself.
