I was at a friend's the other day when this song started to play!
I was like... "Wait, this isn't the original artist!" (I'd only heard Simon and Garfunkel before this) and she said "Nope, this is Disturbed"
And now I have a new favorite cover for this song...
I haven't listened to Disturbed in a long time...
Here is sound of silence, one of Disturbed songs they covered which has come a big hit :) Added I like to thank everyone for the support, happy to see everyo...

So haunting, isn't it?
Definitely a different tone to Simon and Garfunkel's version.

@ScribbledAdNauseum it is much different. I prefer it to S&G's version.

@NJChicaa Yes, I have to say I do to. Especially the acapella. I have listened to several different recordings of Disturbed's cover but this is the best by far.

I especially love this version of Disturbed's, because it's Acapella. So much more haunting, wouldn't you agree?

@CRK109 Definitely! Even between this one from Disturbed, and the one they have with music accompaniment.

I've heard this before. They did a good job on it. I like a few Disturbed songs. "10,000 Fists in the Air" is pretty good.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - I don't go out of my way to listen to them, but I don't turn it off if they come on.

I saw disturbed in concert last summer and they preformed the sound of silence. I personally believe it is a beautiful rendition to Simon and Garfunkle. My husband has a habit of going on to youtube and finding covers of songs we both like. we have found a lot of new bands that we like because of this.

I am sure it's an excellent way to find out about new artists. I actually use youtube in that way sometimes as well...
I tend to listen to other languge music on youtube. Found some pretty Icelandic songs, for instance.

@ScribbledAdNauseum one group in particular that we love to listen to is the harp twins. they play everything to the theme of games to Metallica on a harp.

I've been playing it back to back... I'm sure my family is quite tired of it already.

I have been playing it a lot today. I absolutely love it. This particular version? Especially towards the end, the emotion is just so raw.

I doubt I'll listen to Simon and Garfunkel's version for a long while... haha. As it is, I am playing this nearly back to back.

The only thing I can think of when I hear this song is Garrison Keillor's spoof version of it on A Prairie Home Companion, The Sound Of Coughing.
