I have not watched TV for a very long time. What about you? Has it changed your life?

With cable being so expensive, I got rid of it. I don’t even have basic channels. I have three channels through this device I put on the window. Most of the time it does not bring in channels and hasn’t in a very long time. I have seen TV probably 3 times for a few minutes since the middle of 2015. Has it changed my life? Yes, it has. I know less and less about Hollywood, the entertainment field, and the personal lives of people I don’t even know or care to know. What I do miss is the news on a TV screen. When I was growing up, I watched way too much TV. It was a waste of time. Garbage in, garbage out.

I don't watch TV online. Once in a while I may check out film clip someone posts. I feel like I have so little time to accomplish goals that if I did go back to watching TV, I would get less done.

I do not know how to switch on the TV at home. I do not want TV for many years. I still get to hear something because someone at home will always switch on TV. It is a waste of time, and it makes the world appears more dangerous than it really is.

@MsBooklover I do not know which one is the remote control for TV, and I sure do not know which channel watch. Over here, there are different TV channels in 3 or 4 different languages. Even then, you have to switch on the plug, and I do not where to find it too! If I have any say in this matter, I will sell away the TV and get everyone to read books instead. They can use smartphones for any other entertainments.

I guess there is a switch for the TV. I never thought about that because the TVs I have used as an adult always have a remote control. It is true that the more you watch TV, the scarier it seems.

@scheng1 Wow! You have it in three or four languages. Yes, read books!

That is very true, and I save a lot of money. Back in the day, a friend of mine had two small children. They had no TV. If they ever said they were bored, she gave them a choice. They could read a book or scrub the floor. One child ended up becoming a psychiatrist and the other became a nuclear scientist.

Zoega59, I see your point. There is some good info on TV, but some isn't worth your time. Even though I got rid of cable and do other things, I still don't have enough time to do everything that is important.

I am not sure the cost of cable, but it is cheap in China. I do agree that it is a waste of time, I also don't want to pay more time on watching TV. I like watch foreign language channels for learning English.

Now, that is a fantastic idea. Learning a language through watching other channels if it is cheap enough.

Its just made me more ignorant of the Hollywood tv world. That's fine though. I do try to keep up with the news, just the important stuff.

Yes, I don't mind being ignorant of Hollywood TV world. I do want to know what is going on in the news that is really important. That can be done on the computer.

I watch TV almost every day. Especially on Monday night. “Quantico.” To be honest, I don't really like the show. I just watch it because I'm a Priyanka Chopra fan.

You are so right. My home is more peaceful without a TV. Sometimes I think even if you are not actively listening to the TV, it can be a disturbance.

I do agree cable and satellite services have become very expensive. I have been without cable for several months now and I feel completely lost. I miss watching reality shows, talk shows, and Judge Judy. Yes my life had changed drastically since I'm not able to watch cable television. Once I can afford out again I will get my cable hooked back up but as of right now it's too expensive.

Miya, at first, I missed the TV. However, I started doing things that I realized were more important. Prema, TV serials may or may not be dangerous. I got rid of the cable because of the cost.

Sometimes, I only switch TV on just to have some noise at home. But, I don't really pay attention to what they are bringing up. There are so many other ways to get informed about news and what's going around. We get information through radio, newspapers, Internet, neighbours.... and the news nowadays not always is positive.

I think doing this would be quite interesting and perhaps open life up to more interesting possibilities. However, I do like feeling part of a community who watches the same shows and then talks about it online. However, I do sometimes feel that there is just so much junk on TV now. People who make TV shows seem more interested in making money than in creating an art form of high quality.

I agree. The producers are usually more interested in money and ratings. Reality TV has brought a lot to TV than I ever expected. Most of it is not real, and does exploit people.
20 Apr 17
Good Television is gone, anyway. Doesn't bother me much, I instead prefer watching YouTube stand-up artists.

I agree with your decision, it takes a struggle to get rid of the habit, but the spirit to move forward our life, that's the best. Current decisions (quit cable tv) will provide lessons and basic decisions later on. If for information and news, you do not need to be afraid, just habit and deceive other tools such as mobile phone, ipod, ipad where while in hotspot free area, can we get the news and information. Hopefully the next day you are always happy
